He’s only 36, which isn’t that old for a goalkeeper.No we haven't. He's just got old.
And Forster is only a little younger than him at 35…

I thought the same when watching it.Mentioning body language in here often gets a deserved clobbering...But I felt Ryan's 'He's out for the season' in the presser was kinda said in a way that brooked no further discussion. We'll get the answer in a few years when the books come out imo.
Lloris has played a lot of football, and barely had a summer off what with France getting far in most tournaments in the last decade. His body failing is one thing, but the more important fact is that he’s started doubting himself because of it, which is a killer for a keeper. He’s only 36, which isn’t that old for a goalkeeper.

This is a player who has been here for 10 years, never been a cause of problems, has captained the club for years and who went out after the Newcastle to meet the press....I won't buy into it that he's injured. He has had a fall out.
Good point about Lloris having played a lot of football, as we forget how much they must put their bodies through at times.Lloris has played a lot of football, and barely had a summer off what with France getting far in most tournaments in the last decade. If he has - fair play to him for sitting with the team today.I won't buy into it that he's injured. He has had a fall out.
Not necessarily been banished, he opted to not play. This is a player who has been here for 10 years, never been a cause of problems, has captained the club for years and who went out after the Newcastle to meet the press....
And you are telling me that he has all of a sudden had such a bad fallout that he has been banished from playing?
Might want to take of that tin foil hat of yours for a bit.
He fell out of your arse and got injured?Falling out my arse. He’s injured.
That's very harsh on Friedel. He was very competent.Said as much probably in this thread a few months back, but 10 years just knowing the no1 spot is solid should not be sniffed at (and i'm of the opinion that his drop off hasnt been as bad as many make out, albeit in the minority flying that flag) , but just did quick google to recall the timeline of starting keepers since 2000:
'00 - '02 Sullivan
'02-'04 Keller
'04-'08 Robinson
'08-'11 Gomes
'12 Friedel
'13 onwards Hugo
5 average/below par keepers in 12 years. If this is his last year as our starter i'm praying we get another as good as hugo.....should be easy enough right....
As a former keeper I sometimes view then differently to others, and overall I would say Gomes was underrated and Friedel was overrated by most. With Gomes he If would pull off a save no one else would then drop a clanger and the net impact is zero. There is a confidence element but Friedel was glued to his line so didn’t drop crosses or miss the ball charging out for 1:1s, but we probably conceded more goals as a result. If Gomes came for 10 crosses and dropped one at an attackers feet for a tap in and everyone thinks that is 1 goal he’s cost us, whereas Friedel stays on his line and 2 goals are scored from headers and everyone blames the defence. Hugo is definitely more at the Gomes end of the scaleThat's very harsh on Friedel. He was very competent.
Oddly enough Gomes was also absolutely immense in the run-up of the 09/10 season where we secured CL football for the first time. Overall he had too many crazy moments though.
It's one of the most crucial positions though, so really hope we prioritise it this summer.
True, but apart from his kicking Hugo rarely catches a corner cleanly these days.As a former keeper I sometimes view then differently to others, and overall I would say Gomes was underrated and Friedel was overrated by most.
