Prof on COYS with a sizeable update tonight from Galahad.

Even though their contracts have not officially commenced, both Munn and now Ange are in contact with scouts and other stakeholders within THFC to review their perceptions of the current squad, i.e. which players they feel are able to adapt to the new playing style, who must be moved on, and which positions are priorities to bring in. There is money for purchases, plus whatever we get in sales.

Although we have spoken to a number of potential DoF candidates, there is discussion around whether the role is a necessity (given the skill sets of the people in the football-only side of the organization), and if it is, which of the options would be the best fit for us.

Both Munn and Ange got assurances that the board would let them get on with the clear out and rebuild, without significant interference. They both believe this will happen, however even though they are two very smart people who know what they're doing, DLs track record when it comes to allowing football people to have autonomy is very poor, to put it mildly. This will be a litmus test for the viability of the new vision for the club.
Will be interesting who they believe need to be moved on? Might be some surprises! What would Levy’s reaction be if they decided Son, for example, couldn’t cut it in the new system? Could put pressure on the board’s assurances to not interfere.

They're good videos, aside from all the memory recalling he does, when he seems to already know what he's going to say. Instead of refering to, say, the CL semi final, he'll say something like 'We played er, who was it, I think it was, yes that's right, when we played Ajaz in the....er, what was it, er, the Champions League in er, when was it, forgive me, er, in May I think it was a few years ago, erm, 2019, yes that's right, and er, was it Moura who had a hattrick, yes, Moura, it was Moura wasn't it?......'

Good videos, slightly too much waffle. Love ya tho Ali!
Agree. Never understand why he doesn’t have notes or prompt cards with him.

I feel that Kane can press well, but chooses not to do so all the time. Presumabley because he knows he can't do it all game for 2 games a week now, and chooses to keep himself fresh.

Son has more pace and often tries harder to press, but he gets beaten very easily and make thes wrong pressing decision, ending up the wrong side of people. Tackling is not his strong suit. Coaching may help but seems a bit late to really fix it, especially if his legs are going a bit.

Although let's see how 1 game a week and no mid season world cup changes things, a lot of players may look like new men.
It will be interesting to see how Son and Kane adapt to the press, however what I would say is pressing is very different in a low or mid-block, where there is much more space to cover, so it takes more energy and the defender usually has time to control the ball and assess what to do, so makes tackling harder.

In Postecoglu's High Press, the moment the opposition gets the ball, the team is so high up, that the attackers are all ready on top of the defenders, so not as much distance to run and the opposition player doesn't have as much time to get the ball under control.

why do people think we can compete with the money clubs. City, Chelsea, Utd all have way more wage money than spurs . We will never ever compete with those until we have some sugar daddy owner (which i don't want) we need to work differently and that is the truth and many need to deal with that.
I don’t necessarily agree with this. With our income from the Stadium(which is growing year on year) we earn more than Chelsea for example and with FFP rules being stricter the money clubs can’t spend THAT MUCH MORE than us. It’s more a case of Levy having an aversion to spending, what he sees as, too much. He thinks football should be run differently. Unfortunately, for him and us, the rest of football doesn’t agree.

The Martin Jol one seems to fit best

I love Postecoglou, Postecoglou loves me, I love Postecoglou, Postecoglou loves me
Never mind a Director of Football, we need a Director of Chants! We really shouldn't be struggling for possibilities - especially with the whole summer to work on it. Maybe it needs a new thread but I'm sure the combined wit of SC can come up with something NEW and catchy. Here's my contribution so far...

Taking a terrace classic - Son of my Father (AKA Oh Teddy, Teddy):

Aaaaange Postecoglu
Born in Greece but now he’s an Aus-tra-li-an
Aaaaange Postecoglu
Oz, Japan and Glasgow, now he’s Li-ly-white

There are plenty of Aussie related songs, too - starting with Down Under:

Ange comes from a land down under
Attacking football full of wonder
When we press, your defenders blunder
You better run, you better take cover

Or how a bit a bit of Kylie's I Should Be so Lucky:

We’ve got Postecoglu, Angie Postecoglu
We’ve got Postecoglu in charge
We’ve got Postecoglu, Angie Postecoglu
We’ve got Postecoglu in charge

Going back a bit further there's Mental As Anything's Oz-pop anthem Live it Up:

Hey, Ange Postecoglu
We really want you
To win a cup

Or one I posted earlier to Waltzing Matilda:

Ange Postecoglu, Ange Postecoglu
Ange Postecoglu’s in N17
And he stands on the touchline,
As the Spurs go marching on
Ange Postecoglu is Tottenham’s Aussie.

"[At Brisbane] Postecoglou came in and straight away got rid of big-name players such as Craig Moore, Charlie Miller, Bob Malcolm and Danny Tiatto. They’d nearly won the league the previous year, but Postecoglou felt they had too much power and weren’t fully on board, so off they went."

Ask these four what they thought of him!
Craig Moore
“When I first went back out to Australia I was at Brisbane Roar. Ange came in just as I was leaving the club. We had a bit of a run-in but we’re grown men – we forgive and forget – and we’ve got a great relationship.

“There was a meeting and he was probably trying to use his motivation on the group. Maybe he said a thing or two that I wasn’t overly delighted with! But it was all good. Then he got the job at the national team and I’m thinking, ‘Oh no, we probably didn’t finish off on a great note at Brisbane!’.

“So I picked up the phone and said, ‘Listen Ange, I’m in Melbourne and I’d love to catch up with you. You’re national team coach now but I’ve been doing this role in terms of mentoring and helping the FA with a lot of information about the players overseas. You may or may not want that to continue!’ We met – we had an hour – and had a really great chat. We both agreed we were hugely passionate about Australian football and wanted to continue to make an impact."

Charlie Miller
“We thought we wouldn’t get someone who was worthy of replacing him. That’s why we didn’t take to Postecoglou. But it turns out he was up to the job because he went on to do a good job at Brisbane then elsewhere.

I should have given him more of a chance. He didn’t even want me to go. But Craig was my pal and I just followed him. When I look back, I should have given Postecoglou time.

The problem was, I had made my mind up about him before he’d even arrived.

But what he did showed me that there was something about him. He wasn’t scared to get rid of us and, back then, Craig and Danny were big-name Australian international players.

“He took on a big rebuild at Brisbane and it didn’t faze him. He didn’t beat about the bush, especially with Craig right away. Postecoglou showed some balls by doing that."

Bob Malcom
“Ange was wanting to bring in younger players and at that point Craig, Charlie and myself were there,” he said. “I hold nothing against him. He wanted to go in a certain direction. That is what happens in football.

“I didn’t really have many dealings with him. I knew I was coming home. I just went in, trained and left. But I spoke to him a few times and he seemed a stand-up guy. I never had any cross words with him. Craig (Moore) played under him and speaks very highly of him.”

Danny Tiatto
“He’s come in and get rid of us old farts, people like myself, Charlie and Moorey” Tiatto told au.fourtwo.com.

"You could see what Ange was trying to do, he was trying to implement new ideas and that’s fair enough. It’s great for the game what he’s done. Roar have raised the level for everyone and hopefully it can continue. What he's done has been very impressive.”

Worth noting that Danny Tiatto was fined and dropped by Brisbane Roar under Postecoglu for having a pop at him in a newspaper article about his "silent" management style, however, I can't find the quotes.

Also, here is another quote from Craig Moore about when he worked for Postecoglu as player liaison for the Australian Nation Team
“Mark Milligan that used to play with Hibs, great lad. He had worked with Ange at Melbourne Victory and this was during the Asian Cup. We’re in training camp and he comes up to me and says: ‘Moorey, Ange isn;t even talking to me, what’s up?’
“I was player liaison manager at the time so told him to leave it with me and I’d speak to Ange. So over lunch I went to Ange and said: ‘Listen Ange, Millsy isn't too happy, he says you;re really different to how you were at club level. He just said: ‘Yeah? He’ll get over it.”
“Now I know he had a lot of time for Millsy. But that just showed how he was. He almost creates a walking on eggshells atmosphere. I told Millsy: 'You'll be alright mate!"

Probably the obvious ones but could see someone like Reguilon & maybe GLC stay(if they wanted to).

He’ll be doing some work in the background without a doubt.

this will take time though, given our current squad and the last 4/5 years.
He’s got 75 hours of football to watch if he wants to see how we performed last season. Probably give him nightmares.

Stoked with this. Always thought he would suit us. Think he will do well and at least get fans on board. Very much a likeable character in the Jol, Redknapp, Poch mould. Will play good footy Also the 1st Aussie to coach in the prem which is huge for us in Oz. COYS! Come on Ange!

I want Davies to stay. He's a solid 6/10 type player.

Udogie could be useful next year. Unpopular opinion but I think Ndombele could surprise us in an Ange system.

Raya, Laporte, Madison and we look a lot stronger especially with Bissouma coming back in at the start of the season. Bentancur is a bit of the way off so would like to bolster the pivot as well. If we could get some cash from PEH and reinvest it would be nice....a lot of people seem to rate Hatate at Celtic.

If we could get £50m for Richarlison I would'nt mind selling and reinvesting.
Will the lazy xxxxx be working hard for Ange then ? It will require a complete change in his character for that to happen.

Would love the first press conference to be Big Ange walking in with little Levy. No way Levy is gonna fire him …

Reading a lot of the content on him and views of those that have worked with him… he’ll be doing this his way. No slackers will be left in this squad. Interesting to see how he’ll work with a Director of Football who hasn’t even been appointed yet. Or is this another about turn in strategy by the club.

Seems the opposite of Poch in some respects. Won’t be inviting young players into his office for green smoothies and chats by the looks of things.

We have one of the r highest net spends in Europe over the last few years so I wouldn’t say there is any aversion to spending since we’ve moved into the new stadium. We just need to be smarter than the rest with our spending to truly compete. Because we can’t outspend teams run by countries no matter what FFP pretend they are going to enforce.

Do the new FFP rules have teeth? Are they actually enforceable? City, Newcastle and Chelsea will appoint some top lawyers rather than accept restrictions / punishments.

Yes.

There is a reason Newcastle haven't just thrown obscene amounts of money at it already. The main problem with FFP rules is that the vast majority of fans don't understand how they actually work, see a club spending a lot, and automatically think they must be breaking them.

Chelsea have been using creative accounting but that'll only take you so far and they can't continue to spend like last Summer for long, they need to sell.

Newcastle had a huge amount of wiggle room due how they were run by Ashley

Man City have been charged and it's now a legal battle. They got away with it last time due to a technicality. I can't see them doing the same this time round but they'll drag this out as long as is physically possible. They won't get off this time round.
