This is purely my gut feeling, based on 15-odd years of following Spurs transfer guff online, but the noises surrounding this transfer have made it always seem quite unlikely to me.

From the very beginning top German reporters were saying he was a key player for Leverkusen, an important character in the dressing room, and someone they had no intention of selling. And since then we've basically had no indication that things were progressing at all beyond Fab Romano saying we're "working on it".

Usually by this point in a saga there's some kind of progress or a hint that we're getting closer on the fee, but this time there's been absolutely nothing. Just a sense that we're trying to very slowly chip away at the asking price behind the scenes and Leverkusen aren't relenting.

I think the only way this happens is if we sell Kane and end up making an offer Leverkusen can't refuse - probably around 55m or something. VdV seems eminently more likely given we've literally flown him over, he was impressed by Ange, and Wolfsburg seem far more willing to deal.
Usually I'd agree, but lately some of our transfers have gone a bit under the radar. We get some peeks in here and there, but things are definitely more tightly under wraps now, it seems, until they start to get close.

Agree with this. I said the same a couple of weeks back. Usually we would have had an article in a German publication saying we’ve had a bid rejected, or that we were getting close to matching their valuation, but there has been nothing of the sort. Romano, and all the UK based spurs reporters always include his name as a defender who is on our preferred list but there have been no developments apart from that.

It was supposed to be decision time this week. So I guess that is why we are now moving for Tosin. Maybe it will be Tosin and VDV. Or I think there is still a possibility of Laporte when Man City finally sign Gvardial.

I mean football is unpredictable and who knows, maybe we'll randomly agree a fee out of nowhere. Stranger things have happened.

I just don't feel like the type of messaging and signals (or lack thereof) surrounding this deal are similar to the usual patterns when we actually sign a player. This one just feels like we're banging our head against a brick wall.

This isn't like a Gil, Udogie or Vicario where we swooped in out of nowhere. We've apparently been openly negotiating with Leverkusen for over a month now with zero signal we're getting anywhere.

I agree, the situation is a bit weird. But I'll stick to what I said, cause by the opposite logic, we're only signing Tosin. That just seems too unlikely to me.

Had anyone even heard of him until about a month ago? I hadnt, nor vdv. I reckon it will be Laporte. Him and Romero starters. Dier and another couple of shite we have. But fingers crossed we rotate and all hunky dory.

Now those initial messages have been reiterated by Leverkusen themselves, which hardly bodes well for us.

Totally agree mate.

I've felt the same on this one all along, a spidey sense from years on Spurs transfer rumour patterns.

In the same way that I don't think we will sign Tapsoba, I do think we will sell Kane.

Lets see...

I had. Vdv no but tapsoba I’ve liked for a season or 2. Only because one of those scouting pages did a piece on him so watched him few times last year. He’s very composed

Who watches a little bit of Bundesliga certainly has. He is a monster there.

VDV on the other side, i was really not too much aware, and what i have seen looks more work in progress.

I have nothing against VDV, if our scouts see something there, but tapsoba could be a gamechanger for our defense imo.

As things stand I'd guess we'll sign Tosin + 1. Probably VdV but maybe someone we're not being linked to right now.

If Kane is sold maybe we just say fuck it and overpay for Tapsoba.

I am hoping the fact that VdV has not signed means that the club feel there is still a chance they can get Tapsoba. It is the hope that kills you though.

I think you could well be right. I'd be happy enough with that. Knows the league, wouldnt have to settle in etc. Things might accelerate with him once Man City get Gvardiol over the line.

The only thing I can think is that we are waiting until we have resolved the Kane situation.

It shouldn’t impact the CB but it is the only way any of this makes remote sense.

Around £43m, the same we paid for Romero. This shouldn't be beyond us especially with the amount of revenue we'll likely generate from outgoings.
Are we perhaps waiting for a possible Kane & D.Sanchez sale to re-assess our options perhaps 🤔

Although with our revenues I can’t see why we can’t afford to just pay this right now anwyays.

Agree mate.

It’s like we linked up our ducks with VDV & Tapsoba and then we go on tour, Ange finds out from Kane he wants out 💯 to Bayern and so the club pause and re-assess because the budgets and potential targets and overall puzzle 🧩 will look very different if we get £80-100m for Kane.

We shall see, I just wish this was all resolved a lot earlier rather than sabotaging our start to a season for about the 100th time due to the way Levy works.
