Around £43m, the same we paid for Romero. This shouldn't be beyond us especially with the amount of revenue we'll likely generate from outgoings.
A bit more but around that yes, it makes you think we're not that far apart surely given I'm sure we've been told we'd offered or were running with around £40 million. Would £45 million really be beyond us? Much less than that would be a joke offer anyway.

The only thing I can think is that we are waiting until we have resolved the Kane situation.

It shouldn’t impact the CB but it is the only way any of this makes remote sense.

We're also treading a bit of a thin line on non HG quota in our squad, especially if GLC and Ndombele stay. Kane would be one more down so we might be looking harder at Guehi/Kilman/Adarabioyo etc. Just a theory.

I'm fairly relaxed about most transfers, but even i am finding it difficult to see why we haven't pulled the trigger on one CB just yet. Only other reason i can possibly think of that might be causing a delay (other than the obvious 'Levy not willing to spend money' excuse) is that our very first named 'big' target was Laporte, and therefore we are waiting for City to land Gvardiol before the Laporte situation is sorted ?

*Of course that would need to mean Spurs had held talks with Laporte and would be fairly sure he'd join us , otherwise it'd make no sense.

True.

I can’t see both Tanguy and Gio trying however. At this point in time it defo seem Gio sin favour which I like.

POK said if PEH leaves we will still be looking at another midfielder which seems a lot. Veiga would be a nice option though if it came about.

Surely we would be pulling the trigger on the other option in the meantime though? Wait on Laporte but get Tosin in the door?

I have no idea, it’s all rather frustrating. We always seem to be pretty close but never all the way.

That is a reasonable fee.

If we offer £45m all in we'd likely get him.

Just back Ange and sign him ffs.

I agree, but in the back of my mind is the situation we've seen before where we offer the asking price and the seller then just bumps it up 5 or 10m. 45m to sort out such a glaring issue doesn't sound bad to me though.

if that's true at least the figure needed is beyond doubt now. if he's our supposed number 1 target i simply cannot fathom why this isn't progressing given there apparently don't appear to be any competitors for his signature and all the numbers are known.

Yeah that's really not a crazy fee at all for a player they don't want to sell.

I thought they'd actually want more given how much we're dragging our heels on this one.

We've done some great business so far this window- all very good signings for very reasonable fees. But we need to bite the bullet and pay up for one top level CB, and then the other can be a "deal" type signing (1 year left on contract etc). The price of a top CB is in the £35 - £60M bracket:

-De Ligt: £60M
-Lisandro Martinez: £52M
-Kim Min Jae: £43M (release clause so would have been higher).
-Timber: £39M
-Lucas Hernandez: £34M
-Torres: £33M

Tapsoba for £40-50 ish seems reasonable to me. VDV maybe at the lower end of the bracket, but still reasonable imo.

We don’t actually know the fee it would take before it becomes false common knowledge in here. ‘In excess of’ shouldn’t be ignored.

I know we desperately need a central defender. We also desperately need some out goings. We can't just keep adding to the squad. There are at least three central defenders to shift first.

Yeah but I reckon that will have changed with lo celso performing. He can do all veiga can do if veiga can play the 2nd 8 so can gio. With benta ahead of schedule too we will be fine for cms.
Hojberg, Kane, Sanchez sales need to go on a CF and a pacey RW, then the extra money left over on cbs.
