I think Forrest are quite firm on their £50 mil valuation. If Brentford only went to £43 mil including add ons that’s a big jump for a club like them. Imagine Brentford signing a player for £50 mil. Just a crazy thought really. Shows you how much the market has changed if it happens. Even so I’m not entirely convinced he’s a £50 mil player tho even if he’s a young HG attacker.
The £43m bid is more than Dortmund, Benfica, Sevilla, Roma or Milan have ever spent on a player. Premier League money is nuts.

It's pretty much what we paid for Sanchez...
or 70% of Ndombele...
or 75% of Richarlison

It's not crazy.

So Brentford value him close to Forrests valuation...

We don't...you can see why so many deals we push for fall through.

Just pay the £50mil and get it done if he is the one we want, its the going rate for young HG prem proven talent with a number of years left on their contract.

He can cover RW and ST which would give us just about enough attacking options to get us through until January and we can re-assess then.

I'd still like us to sign a top class winger as well as a Johnson for our future re-build as well as now but far too late in the day for that now, it'll be Johnson at best but for the sake of risking the deal and shaving off a few mil I hope we just pony up and get this done and don't drag it out until the final hours, that strategy just doesn't work anymore, it hasn't worked for many years now.

Forest looking to bring a few players in is promising that this could happen at least.

Signing Johnson would give us:

RW: Kulu & Johnson
ST : Richy & Johnson/Son & Veliz (from Jan onwards as per when Ange said he will likely get minutes from)
LW : Son & Perisic & Solomon (Gil from Dec onwards due to injury)

6-7 players to cover the 6 positions playing 1 game a week which should be enough to see us through until January especially with Gil to come back also.

Longer-term we need to find a successor for Son, an upgrade to or serious competition for Johnson and potentially next summer a replacement for Richy if he's not produced the goods.

Could be a case of at 50 mil there are others we prefer. ITK suggested previously that Johnson wasn’t necessarily the first choice from an ability point of view but a number of different factors made him our top choice. One of those factors is certainly HG but another factor could be price. Maybe we just don’t see £50 mil being good value for him. Maybe also if there is truth in us going back in for Gallagher then Johnson isn’t as much of a priority and we could hypothetically move for someone else who isn’t HG.

So how the fuck did arsenal spend almost 200m this window, we are not the only one that was run at a loss the last three years. The difference between us and the lot down the road is the ambition of the chairman, they will do what it takes to win and we will do what it takes to get by.
The difference between us and the lot down the road is that they are willing to overpay to improve.

Until this season, we have spent a similar amount to them and much of the Premier league. The issue isn't that we dont spend, its that we spend so poorly.

Arsenal will take 200m and identify weaknesses in their squad and buy 3 players with that to improve.

We baulk at quoted prices, and end up buying 10 players with the same 200m who may or not improve our first team (who then become problems because we can't move then on)

This is Levys big weakness, sometimes you need to pay a little more. Skriniar was a good example, at the time we were quoted a lot for a cb. But, if we had paid the extra 5-10m it would look a snip at today prices. Same for Bastoni last season.

What really frustrating is we seem to identify the right players, we just refuse to pay what is necessary.

Unless of course Brentford slap down a decent and agreeable amount of cash on the table.
Honestly, wish Brentford would do the dirty work for us and get a bid accepted. That would force Levy into a put up or shut up situation and would look awful if we lost out to Brentford. Would speed things up considerably as we know Levy is going to try and take this one to the wire.

It's worth mentioning that it's been reported (by a couple journos, I'll have to dig it up) that we could offer more favorable payment terms to Forrest compared to Brentford. I think with these fees getting higher and higher, that's becoming more of a part of deals these days.

It’s frankly amazing we’ve spent a month expecting them to lower their asking price, just like we did with Tapsoba. For players the selling clubs don’t really want to sell and have no contract pressure to sell.

I just don’t get it. Either pay the asking price or move on. There’s no pressure on the seller and no need for them to cave. Levy still thinks it’s 2005 and EPL teams “need” to sell.

36 hours left. Massive holes up top and at CB. 100M burning a hole in ENICs wallet.

Their valuation is £50m. They rejected a £40m bid from Brentford. Therefore one can assume that we know we have to pay around £45-50m on him. Is that £5m gap in valuation really worth risking not getting your target? And I say £5m, because given the 40m they rejected from Brentford, I'm assuming that we aren't offering less than that!

If it's a matter of "we'll have him but he's only worth £45m not £50m", then you really shouldn't be willing to pay the £45m in the first place.

It's just so so poor and I'm so so tired of our Club's antics. Levy is lucky that Ange has gotten us ticking so early with 3 good performances, otherwise the toxicity would be a lot worse than it currently is.

Even so, when we inevitably have a bad performance or a bad result (see upcoming NLD for example), then all this negativity will come rushing out and the wound will be cut open afresh.

He just holds us back so much, it's got to the point where the THST or the fans as a collective should consider drastic action against Levy and Enic IMO.

I don't think it is. They are either criminally incompetent, which they aren't as we've seen we can do deals quickly when we want to, or they just don't want to spend it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is all the "we tried" PR trick, so we can put the 100m into the operational costs for the year and boost profits. We'll all forget the 100m in a year. We'll complain a lot on SC or sing Levy out at matches when we're losing, but that's it. No skin off Danny's nose when he's raking in the $$$.

If Levy does intend to leave this until tomorrow last minute then it will leave us no room to move if it goes sideways. I still think this gets done for sure but it’s just risky.

The Kane money has already been spent on Maddison, Porro, Kulu, Veliz and Van der Ven.

I don’t think we’d do that at this stage anyway. This transfer is more about squad building than addressing a glaring hole in the team. While I can see the merit in doing the transfer, Johnson doesn’t really elevate this team in any meaningful way.

I mention it more because I’ve seen in a number of reports that we have other targets in case. Bakayoko for example being one of them.
