Not sure if this has been posted before, I hope someone in the media has pointed out to Klopp the IFAB rules on VAR ....

Match validity

In principle, a match is not invalidated because of:

  • malfunction(s) of the VAR technology (as for goal line technology (GLT))
  • wrong decision(s) involving the VAR (as the VAR is a match official)
  • decision(s) not to review an incident
  • review(s) of a non-reviewable situation/decision

NONE OF THAT MATTERS to Liverpool fans.

They would argue that the sky is not blue.

I had to try and defend Tim Vickery on twitter and the level of vitriol toward him is absolutely pathetic.

Some even saying they lost all respect for him and calling him corrupt for suggesting Liverpool want the game replayed.

Yet, he has now been proven to be correct and that is exactly what Liverpool were suggesting when they wanted 'escalations'.

It had got to the point for me now where it has taken on a whole separate body and started to ruin what was a good win for us as it has really destroyed the integrity around the game, not just the VAR call but the response to it and fall out.

I don’t quite understand why there is so much noise about this. It was the wrong decision, yes. It has happened many times before, just not quite in the same way. Liverpool were already down to ten men with loads of the match still to be played. It’s not as if the decision definitely changed the outcome of the match.
The VAR decision didn't even change the ARs decision, let alone change the result of the match.

The most annoying thing is that ange will be hounded about this for months now
He'll come up with a brilliantly whity analogy along the lines of: "one time I was with this girl mate and she asked me if I wanted to come back to hers and I told her nah, i'll go home and get some kip, she's happily married with 3 kids now, but should I be calling her up to see if she still wants a bit of little Ange inside her?"

The only thing unprecedented about this disallowed goal is the fact in went against Liverpool.

I'm sure didn't hear teeth look for a replay when wolves scored perfectly good goal against them only to be disallowed as there was no decent angle to check the offside which looked on.

I was thinking about it all last night on the back of the club’s statement and hearing several commentators be critical of their wording and tone. My conclusion/lingering feeling about them is this:

Liverpool and Man Utd are the two biggest clubs in British football and the two biggest clubs in the most high profile domestic league in the world. They each have huge reach via their massive global fanbases, their huge representation in the media via ex-players, and the number of fans they have who hold prominent roles in the football media (eg the Phil McNulty’s of this world). That gives them significant influence over the football community. I don’t mean in a corrupt way, but rather by setting agendas and narratives on a particular path. That’s before you factor in the more cynical aspect of otherwise objective journalists and broadcasters pandering to those clubs as it boosts clicks/views etc and creates monetary gain for them/their employers.

The difference (in my opinion) between Liverpool and Utd, is that at an entity level Man Utd have in the past appeared mindful of the responsibility that comes with that level of influence. They’ve got some big things wrong recently but even then it seems that they are mindful of how things look and how they might shape the landscape around them.

Liverpool, in contrast, invariably appear to behave recklessly with regards to how they use that influence. The myopic self-interest never stops. The statement they put out on Sunday was exactly that - reckless. A reckless attempt to wield their huge influence in the face of bad luck, being ready and willing to cause major ramifications for the wider game in the hope it might get them an extra point or 3.

The VAR seriously fucked up on Saturday, but it is imperative that the PGMOL stand up to them and are backed by the authorities in doing so. Otherwise LFC will only be encouraged to throw their weight around with even greater reckless abandon, while all the time claiming any resistance is some wild conspiracy against them.
The last paragraph of my post from yesterday feels especially pertinent on the back of Klopp’s press conference. The tweet* screenshot by @LeSoupeKitchen is spot on.

Klopp is creating the biggest us vs the world siege mentality for this season. He’s galvanizing an entire fan base to go freaking rabid. With that being said, I feel bad for whoever has to play them over the next month or two. They will go on a crazy run

How has he actually said that with a straight face? “Nothing like this has ever happened” we literally had a goal disallowed for a player being in our half of the field! Why is the media not questioning him on this? Why does he get to play the media the way he wants? Why do Liverpool get such preferential treatment?

bunch of absolute whingearses! This is ridiculous! You know for a fact decisions are gonna go against us the weekend!
The problem is most people (media) and fans of most clubs have forgot about the specifics of the many many bad decisions gone against them and moved on so hard to recall these incidents without researching.

Liverpool are different...

Although Paul Hawksby on Talksport been shooting down the "this has never happened before and all other bad decisions have been subjective" narrative now being played. One example was the Sheffield Utd goal vs Villa not given as goal line tech failed no goal, no replay, Sheff Utd relegated...

Let them try for a replay then slap them with a point deduction for being the biggest pussys in the game

There needs to be some kind of stinging sanction against Klopp for spouting this sort of bullshit. Time and again he gets away with it and he knows it's complete bollocks when he comes out with it. Bloke is a weapons grade arsewipe.

Not sure, could well work the opposite. He seems to be losing his head over it
