A little bit of perspective. He coughed the ball up and it led to their goal but he had to try and beat their press all game or pass it back to Davies or Emerson.
Exactly I’d take that mentality from a player than someone who’s just happy to pass the responsibility to do that. Those players don’t get scrutinised because the mistakes aren’t obvious but negatively effect the flow of the game far more.

I thought he woke up from the sleep he's been in for a few games now in that 2nd half. I reckon Ange had a word at HT. Powerful 2nd half.

Yes he blew it re that goal, but as we know, he'll get zero flak from Ange re the mistake. Thank christ he'll have Romero helping out next match and the on-the-ball defence will calm.

He’s always been loose in possession and plays on the edge. The mistake (one of many today) is just something that he’s always had in him, just lead to a goal today. I think he’s more of an 8 in this system if he doesn’t have an athlete next to him like Sarr. Particularly in games where we don’t dominate the ball. Ball carrying, drive, athleticism all useful further forward. Defensively I don’t think he’s the most spatially aware. Progressive passing non-existent, and in this system, I really do think positional play is super important in possession. And a metronome with passing range needed at the base of midfield. He vacates his zone far too often when carrying the ball. It’s just the sort of player he is. So annoying Benta got injured as I think he’s the perfect profile for that 6 role. Benta 6, Madders 10, and Gio, Biss, or Pape the 8 depending on the game. That’s how I’d roll with a fully fit midfield.

He made the same mistake in the first half for that Haaland chance

Edit: wasn't for the Haaland chance on a rewatch

If he just played it out to the left that goal does not happen. Respect for keeping on trying it as likely instructed, but sometimes you just need to pass it to keep the ball.

He wasn’t ‘terrible’ that’s OTT and harsh.

Away to City being asked to play like we do being pressed so much isn’t bloody easy!

One big mistake and a bit below his level but he wasn’t ‘terrible’.

Once we got PEH on the balance in the middle and overall was much better.

Terrible for his standard. He just looks well off it

He's not the same player we were seeing earlier in the season, certainly seems less sure of himself on the ball.

And that was what I was getting at. Maybe saying was terrible was a little harsh but he was the outstanding player before he dived

Bissouma is an important cog - but he is not a player to build a squad around.

He misses having Sarr - as both a defensive partner, and a willing outlet, and he misses Maddison who is also a very willing outlet. He also misses Romero and VdV - because they too worked well in tandem in helping to move the ball out.

I thought he played well at times today - and had a few give-aways too.

If he stays heathy through AFCON, when he gets back, and we have the other players back as well, we should be back to the form we saw at the start of the season.

Yet Dier shows good mentality but makes fatal mistakes = costs us points. What Bissouma did for the 3rd goal was very poor and he should know better

Not for me. Diers very passive, backs off. Doesn’t actually want to put himself in positions to make mistakes, yet he still does. Completely different. Bissouma should of done better in that situation but we were putting ourselves under pressure by playing those square/backwards passes. He maybe overdone it but it was the right idea

He's lost his personality since the Luton game. Needs to find his mojo again as we're miles better when he's good.

Don't be surprised if he picks up once Romero and VdV are back in the side.

If you are a player looking to turn and play forward in tight areas it makes a hell of a difference how the pass is played to you. If it's fired straight at you it's far harder to adjust and turn than it is if it's played the way you should be moving in order to turn. Good clever players will give you that tiny bit more quality in the pass to make your job easier.

Also knowing you have a solid technically good outlet both in front and behind you, gives you more options and less to think about.

I'm not worried at all tbh and I'm sure he will improve once the quality around him picks back up.

There was a simple pass out to Johnson on the left but he ignored it and turned into trouble. He’s experienced enough to know not to do that
