Two fabulous finishes, the second of which left me beaming from ear to ear. Has a tendency to be wasteful, but hopefully today can relaunch his Spurs career.

But seriously, I want to commend Son on working so hard to get his place back in the team, and when he gets a start, seizing the opportunity with both hands. He skipped his last match with South Korea over this past international break to come back early to us to train and learn and show Poch that he deserves a spot. I admire him for his dedication to the team and to working hard.

He seems to be a great asset to the team both on the pitch and off of it. He seems like one of those guys who never stops smiling. He's not the best passer in the team; he left a couple of passes short today and was woeful on at least two through-balls that if he had had more pace on them, would have carved Stoke open for potentially two more goals. But his pace on the counter is straight up dangerous and electrifying. For me, he is that "bums off seats" player that some fans have been demanding and don't think we have. He's two-footed and even though I don't think his positioning is right, he is constantly working hard in the pressing game. His dribbling today left a lot to be desired, especially when he got into the box a couple of times in the first half.

So, he needs to improve on:
1) Being better with through-balls and passing in general
2) Decision making
3) Dribbling
4) First touch

If he improves on those things, he will make it very difficult for Poch to leave him on the bench. I'm curious to see what will happen with Monaco and going forward. I suspect Son won't start vs. Monaco this week, but if it was unfair to bench Vorm after his great performance against Pool, how much more of an argument does Son now have to keep his place? It's a great problem to have. I'm happy he didn't head off to Wolfsburg!

Okay, after all that I'm ready for the "are you Son's momma?" replies.

He honestly seems like the type of player that once he scores he can go on a streak of goals and help the team win games. Its a great problem to have deciding who plays when etc good thing is we need our "backups" to be a in good form as they'll get more playing time with all the competitions we are in.

And when No Can Do gets up to speed, Son ,GKN and Delli running in late unnoticed will scare any opposition to death.

Big season for him coming up. Really like him as a player and gives us a good option. Son, GKN, Janssen Sissoko give us such great options in the attacking positions.

With Son, you have to realise, last season was his adjustment season and then he had some injuries. He should be afforded the same leeway that most people gave Lamela. Give him time and he'll come good

Last season he scored 3 goals in his first 3 appearances for us before he was crippled with injury, first game back and he's in with 2 goals and an assist. I'm glad we've stuck with him, he's going to offer a lot to the squad if he can stay fit.

I've written a lot about Son since we signed him, as I've followed Asian football closely for a long time. There are a few key points I've made in that time that I think bear repeating today:

1. Son is so much better playing on the left of an attacking three than on the right. He can shoot with his left foot, but his right foot is far stronger and he is much better dribbling and controlling the ball with his right foot. If you look at his best matches at Leverkusen, they were always on the left, and with us, his strongest moments tend to come from when he plays on the left, too.

2. Son is a much better player when he starts than when he is a substitute. He isn't used to coming off the bench. He's been first choice everywhere since he broke through pretty much at the highest level of club and national team football. Go look at his goal scoring record for us and notice that only the Watford goal (arguably offside) came as a sub. If you want the best of him, you've got to start him.

3. The issue with starting Son is that he isn't like Eriksen and Lamela where he will create chances constantly and play through balls and sweet crosses. He is a goal scorer, plain and simple. His assist numbers have always been poor because he is always thinking about lashing the ball into the net. Somedays it'll work out brilliantly, and others it simply doesn't, which means he'll be in for a torrent of criticism here. He also has a bad tendency to overdribble and lose the ball in traffic, which always elicits big groans from many.

4. A lot has been made of Son's injury holding him back last season, but one thing no one here really talked about was how he was run into the ground by Leverkusen and South Korea before he came to us. Go look at the minutes he logged at Leverkusen the season before last. He also had a World Cup in 2015, an Asian Cup during the Bundesliga winter break in January 2015, and had to report back early to Leverkusen for CL qualifiers before we bought him. It's very possible that an extended break last season will have him back to playing well this season. Of course, he did play in the Olympics and will have lots of tough matches for SK in Asian WC qualifiers.

Ultimately, even if the guys is just a squad player, he has a special skill with his ball striking ability that makes him very valuable to us.

His first season was a lot better than Lamela's first season, I couldn't understand all the speculation over the summer and why Poch didn't reassure him that he had a future here. I think he can be player for us.

I think he'll surprise people this year. He's a good player with probably the best attitude you could hope for.

Can believe I'm proven right so soon.

One word today, Immense!

Looks a totally different player at LW than RW

Last year it was having son in our team that kicked us on last year. Could be the same this year!

Now just to have dembele back.

Good to see the positivity for Son growing. I believe we have a bit of a diamond personally. He has talent, physique (6 foot tall) pace, youth and as I've said before, the right mentality.

I read a while ago he missed a lot of games due to plantar fasciitis? I've suffered that and can tell anyone in any doubt it's seriously fucking painful and hard to treat. I spent months walking to work on crutches in the mornings but felt fine on the way home. I ended up with these horrid inserts in my shoes to sort it out. If imagine he had cortizone injections to get him through it.

Really chuffed for him and I think todays goals can be a real catalyst (or I hope it is) for his season. He's going to get opportunities, and the onus is on him to make sure he takes them and breaks into our strongest XI.

Agreed. Yesterday's performance actually makes it harder for him, in that we are starting to see what we expect; yet we want him to build on that.

I believe he has it in him, and it will be nice to see him blossom in Lilywhite.

Plantar fascitis is what I remember reading when he was out for that extended period of time as well. Like you say, it's a proper **** of a thing to recover from and it wouldn't be at all surprising if it was the main reason for his drop in form last season.

Son is a good player, not a great player and he is interchangeable with or other AMs. Lets just remember that the beauty of this squad is we have a bunch of B+ players who together deliver above their weight. We probably have like 3 or 4 irreplacable players and thats it.
