We really are the worst side ever at getting a transfer over the line, can't think of any side that struggle as much as us, there has to be an underlying reason??? It seems no matter how well we do we still can't attract any real decent players.

What like Alli or Dier or Eriksen or Wanyama or Toby or Vertonghen or Lloris ?

it's us all over unfortunately. because we almost never just pay the required fee/wages we always have to serenade/cajole/romance a player for ages into joining and there are always a million things that have to align in order for us to prevail.

for the clubs who have more money than god and don't give a shit about sustainability it's always easy and transfers can be done in hours if need be.

just goes to show that even though we're punching way above our station in the league and on the pitch, in the transfer dealing stakes we're still in the minor leagues. :(

I mean .. honestly. How do you know that the player wasn't delaying waiting to see if a proper bid from his preferred club didn't materialise ?

Wasn't there an instagram post on here from him last night saying 'good things come to those who wait' or similar? Maybe not a coincidence.

I'm really struggling to understand our role in this. From what I've heard the player agreed a deal to join Juventus a year ago. Sounds as if we've been used by the agent all along to create leverage.

If someone in the know lets us know where he's going at least we could make a few quid on betfair!!

Pardon? Son, Eriksen, Verts, Wanyama, Toby and Dier all say hi. Catch a grip.

Other clubs can splash the cash a lot more than we can and also have a much higher profile. We are down in the pecking order, we have to accept that.
But we have a very large inflow of cash just from this windows outgoings - and our profile is up there with Liverpool and the Woolwich Wanderers

Perhaps based on a total misreading of the situation from JJ's comment about doing it once before with Mourinho, but I have just stuck a tenner on him joining United

Er, hope you weren't too attached to that tenner because he meant Moutinho from Porto.

No its not, in this country maybe.
We can't offer the wages that they offer either.

Wages though mate, we don't pay the wages they can.

Really want to say we should have pushed hard for this deal whilst Juve were busy with Schick, Costa and Bernardeschi, but then it could have been the player stalling too.

I'm sure if we were bolder on the transfer front it we could have pressured him into joining a bit more back then, i.e. making a strong bid to Lazio.

I don't think that was the issue, I assume we were willing to pay what Lazio wanted, it's just that while Juve remained interested the player was always going to keep us on the back burner. I guess JJ was confident yesterday because it didn't look like Juve were going to come back in for the player and therefore Balde had indicated he was willing to join - then last night it all changed...

Yeah. We have amateurs in charge of transfers who literally have no idea what they're doing. This transfer window is up there as one the most embarrassing ones ever and I can only see it getting worse.
Our lack of ambition in the market is staggering.
So that's a no then

Not sure mate. I'm as frustrated by our lack of business as many, but to take this Balde situation to call us 'pathetic' is well..... funnily enough I find it be pathetic
