The window is still open - I can assure you that if we still have not signed anybody by the time it ends I will join you in having the most ridiculously over the top meltdown of epic proportions that may cause me to enter the street and get arrested IN REAL LIFE.
Ha don't even go there, if that's the case I can see Poch packing his bags.

I'm obviously incredibly niave and/or ignorant about the situation, but how can a transfer go from close, to dead in a matter of hours?

If the player was interested and then changed his mind, it couldn't have been that close, and if the issue was cost then there's always a bit of negotiation unless the goalposts are changed dramatically.

Just another player missed out on and we can look forward to the ligue 1 bargain bin once again...

It was probably that Juve came back and managed to strike a deal with Lazio. They already had bids rejected and this is what opened the door for us to sign the player. I'm sure if Juve never upped their bid then the signing would still be progressing.

Such a shame but it does emphasise just how bloody difficult it is to get a high profile player in - so many factors that could change at any second to screw it up.

I'd question how high profile he really is. He's certainly a name but he's not yet a top tier player like Lemar for example and has 12 months to run on his contract - suppose this is why it's quite a painful one to stomach.

Really want to say we should have pushed hard for this deal whilst Juve were busy with Schick, Costa and Bernardeschi, but then it could have been the player stalling too.

I'm sure if we were bolder on the transfer front it we could have pressured him into joining a bit more back then, i.e. making a strong bid to Lazio.

I'd argue he is on Lemar's level - he maybe hasnt had the same exposure that the Monaco players recently have had but he is a major talent.

His preferred choice has always been Juventus though hasn't it?

THFC just take far too long to wrap up transfers. On for months where others wrap up in weeks. So frustrating. We're rather pathetic

I mean .. honestly. How do you know that the player wasn't delaying waiting to see if a proper bid from his preferred club didn't materialise ?

I think we should get back to Italy, and actually stick to Northern Italy, and bring home one of the many interesting prospects from there. Somebody who works hard, doesn't have his head in the clouds and who is young and hungry. It's really not difficult.

I have to say I didn't expect us to be 4 days away from the start of the season and in a position where we couldn't really afford to let Sissoko leave.

Understand that there are a million and one reasons as to why a signing may or may not happen - we've lost some to other clubs and no doubt won some from other clubs - and JJ did say this was a long shot transfer - what does concern me is how Poch is regarding this. Football is a results business. He is expected to fulfil his role otherwise his head is on the chopping block. Seems like we keep missing our perceived main targets for whichever reason that may be. It's not unreasonable for him to expect people to do their job and get the main choices over the line, especially those perceived as attainable.

If its the clubs not agreeing, then we aren't paying market rate. If the player has been offered more by another club, then we aren't paying market rate. If a player chooses another club because of reasons outside money, then Spurs aren't being sold to them.

I have always been a Levy advocate, but we have money, we are in the CL, we have challenged for the PL two years running, none of this by fluke but it's still like living through groundhog day circa 2005 when it comes to transfers and main targets.

Oh well, hopefully lessons have been learnt.....Josh King will probably come in, hit the ground running and all will work out in the end.

We really are the worst side ever at getting a transfer over the line, can't think of any side that struggle as much as us, there has to be an underlying reason??? It seems no matter how well we do we still can't attract any real decent players.

Perhaps based on a total misreading of the situation from JJ's comment about doing it once before with Mourinho, but I have just stuck a tenner on him joining United
