Maybe it’s just me, but why would you want to follow football on social media anyway? Unless of course none of your real life friends/family/work colleagues have any interest in football.

Thankfully the only people I engage with on the internet who want to talk football are on SC...... which is quite handy as they all support Spurs :D.
It’s true, I too am only ever on SC for my football chat - what are the best general football forums?

19/1 for a draw

If it does go ahead, then I can see Tottenham trying to wrap it up quickly (in view of trying to rest key players for their match v Juventus a few days after). So we may have to play a containment game for 60-70 minutes, by which time Pochettino will hopefully have the dilemma of deciding whether to keep the likes of Kane, Eriksen, Dembele and Alli on or not.

3rd of March 1928....we stuffed Spurs 6-1 in the cup.
3rd March 1926...we beat them 2-1 in the old first division.
Tomorrow..3rd March...the 3rd day of the third month and our 3rd win.

Town and Stoke double at 84/1.

Feeling positive, reckon we'll nick it. 2-1. Performance of the week.

As long as we don't go back to that defensive nonsense and play attacking football like we have been with Pritchard, I think we have a chance.

Nice of spurs to put a weakened side out

That's a strong starting Spurs lineup though - not resting any players for the upcoming Juventus game then!

Also not underestimating us, giving us credit if you like.

Just seen the ref is Mike Jones, we'll be lucky to finish with 9 men

Alli is getting at least 1 penalty today then!

Mike Jones injured warming up. Kevin Friend in charge

Where's your bogus Qualified Referee Card when you need it. ..... ??

We're pressing well straight away, had them under pressure.

Frantic start. Spurs frightening at times

Looking like rabbits in headlights at the moment

Keep restricting them to long range efforts and we should be fine. Should be.

Somebody crock Son please. Ooops was that my outside voice ....?

What does Pritchard have to do to get a foul against him awarded lately? Was hacked to pieces at the Hawthorns also...

Ali booked early

Ali is a cheat and on the sly a dirty player. Trouble is he has all the tools in the locker and he is better than the picture he paints of himself. People are waking up to his tactics.

Starting to have an idea how they felt in the Alamo. Long afternoon ahead I think...

1-0

Bollox. It was coming. Fully deserved for being so shit in possession

One of these days we will win after going behind. Don't think that it's going to be today though.

Was coming, they look far more skilful than us

Always going to happens. It's hard to play without the ball. Especially against a team as good as Spurs.

They were a yard and a half quicker than us at home and they won't have slowed down. We need to be tough in our challenges.

Spurs are better at closing down than we are, with better players. We're been forced into long ball and it's simply not working. Tough day at the office.

In Eriksen, Alli and Kane they have one of the best attacks in the world - of course Hogg is not going to be on their level, and you can say the same for about three quarters of the league if not more.

Some days the opposition are just 'on it'. I'm not knocking Town for looking second best against the second best team in the country.

Man for man Spurs are streets ahead of our boys. But...who didn't expect that? Some teams are just good at making you look poor. Spurs are one of those teams. We tried a defensive set-up against them at the JSS. Didn't work. We are now trying a more offensive line-up. doesn't seem to be working atm. What to do to give us a bit more of a chance...who knows? Anyway, Massive are 3-0 down already, rejoice in that!!

Hang firm lads we can still get something out of this!

town are second to every ball but there is no fitness reason why they should be. Is there a psychological reason? Like confidence?

Tell you what, stop the bollocks trolling. If you're a Town fan you'll see this game for what it is. They're 15 games unbeaten... Have you ever played football where as a player you're just chasing the opposition? It's bloody hard work..

I can think of a few hundred million reasons.

Maybe the opposition are quicker?

Did well to get in at half time at just 1-0.

Awful so far, miracle it's only one nil. It's clearly a confidence thing, I don't give a shit how good they are we ought to be doing much better.

Much better sides than town have gone in at half time worse than 1-0 down.

We're gonna stay in the game till 15 to go, then attack and snatch something (maybe).

Spurs are outwitting us with a very high tempo game, hopefully they cannot keep that up in the second half. Maybe we can take advantage, when they tire a little, fingers crossed.

Fuck me ragged, how is that not a penalty!!!

Ince with a chance there

2-0

Very nice pass from Kane for that goal. Sigh. We were actually getting back into the game there.

Nothing much you can do about that. 10/10 cross, 10/10 finish.

Keep it as it is until the last 15 minutes, then have a go. Have a go now and we could be first on match of the day for the Tottingham love-in

Lovely goal my arse, Kane lumped it over in the direction of where his mate was haring into space - we gave the ball away cheaply in the first place and then no-one went with the runner. Pretty basic stuff.

If that's how you describe one of the best assists of the season then you really need to just take some time away from football for a while. (y)

Son found the space, Kane saw the 40 yard pass, made it and Son tucked it away. If you want to think it was a mindless lump to a hopeful runner, you crack on.

Can't believe Kane missed that. He's not god after all.

We're not the first team to be out-played by Spurs and we won't be the last - this is a team who were unlucky not to get a result at Juventus. Fair enough they probably took the foot off the gas, but I think we've looked ok in the second half.

Spurs at home was men against boys. They completely took us apart. Today, by contrast, has been much closer and shows the areas that we've improved in. Yes, the first goal showed some defensive naivety with the high line, and the second came from a mistake, however both still required great skill from the opposition to stick away.

Losing 2-0 at a full strength Spurs who beat Real Madrid 3-1 earlier this season and some folk are losing their shit!! Only on a match day thread
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
END

2 of them then carry on ranting at each other with it ending up with them agreeing to me and fight each other to settle it....and I thought our match day thread was bad..

To be fair to Jenas 90% of what he said was that he was to blame for him not reaching the heights he wanted to.

Carrick, Jenas and Scholes would've been a far superior midfield to Gerrard and Lampard. What might have been...

Nah, Jenas never came close to fulfilling his full potential.

Despite being a smart lad and a gent, he never quite had the mentality or drive to make a serious impression.

Carrick, Gerrard and Scholes for the win.

I totally get what you're saying. Shoehorning your best players into a 4-4-2 just never worked (never mind that Heskey was also pants as a 2nd striker). Carrick was made for a 3 man midfield and European / International football. Jenas was a box-to-box athlete (Gerrard was much better mind!) and Scholes a real playmaker / goal scorer. Hoddle had the right idea a few years earlier when he played 3-5-2 with Ince, Beckham and Scholes as his 3 in CM. Keegan and then Erikksen were disastrous mangers who wasted our 'golden' generation.

What's interesting is that they describe that game as frantic. I thought it was slow, flat and very comfortable from us - we played at 60% for most of the match.

Shearer had retired from England the summer Jenas joined Newcastle. Also JJ wasn’t commentating on other people, only the way he found himself affected. He and Shearer are clearly very different types of characters, the former was a leader who dragged others up with him, while JJ was someone who may have benefited from a strong environment to push him.

Around the same time, they should've given that Santiago Muñez lad a few more games, he might not have gone and joined Madrid if they had

Is that not why he says he blames himself though?

Yep. He’s just being honest but that particular explanation he gave seemed a little odd (even though it’s entirely plausible) which is why Shearer responded to it with that message. Not having a pop at Jenas or anything, I actually liked him as a player. It was very honest of him.

He used Newcastle as his example but he got most of his caps with us (I think), so I reckon he was trying to be respectful to Spurs because he sees us as ‘his team’. So what he probably really meant was that coming back to Spurs and playing with the likes of *insert crap Spurs player here* and not fighting for the CL places hindered him. That, on top of his attitude as a player (according to himself) unfortunately resulted in him not achieving what he wanted to.

Anyway, apologies - this should prob be in the pundit thread or ‘its JJ’s fault’ thread.

Back on topic, I just got this text from my gooner mate:

‘Have you lot got your own alternative of St Tottering’s day? If not, you’ll need to think of a name by the end of the month’.
