I'd much rather we played our heart out when it mattered and lost our heads the day the title went. Just remember those gloating today support a team which only plays well when it's out of the title race.

Yes exactly. Losing steam after losing hope is understandable. No need for the over-reaction.

If we start the season with a win and Arsenal lose can we start up another thread along these lines, I have come up with quite a witty tag line I thought - 'Mind the Gap'????

Hey, I'm new here, so please pardon the newbie question.
After suffering St Totteringham's Day for so many years, it looks like it's going to be cancelled again this year. We really should have a name for our day, especially if it continues (God willing) for many decades to come.
  • St Arsenic's Day?
  • Goners Day?
  • Arse-in-the-Hole Day? (Though that probably won't catch on in "respectable" media)
Has this been discussed or decided on anywhere else?

Surely we're above such things? That would probably wind them up more than anything else!

If we must, then I propose we re-appropriate the name St Totteringham's Day and use it for us.

I believe the general consensus is that we don't want to stoop to Arsenal's level where it comes to emulating St Totteringham's Day.

You could also argue that we have yet to earn the right to celebrate it as annual occurrence when we've only done it once in the last 20 years. Do it ten years in a row and maybe we might have to start observing it formally, however.

Rather we didn't. Maybe in another 5 years of regularly finishing above them we might name a day. But it just seems small minded. Lets concentrate of winning something.

Welcome to sc though.

I just find it funny that their big rival this year could well prove to be Burnley and they seem to be messing up quite nicely without us so I don't think we need a reverse to their St T's day.
