Neville is miles ahead of the rest. Jenas is very good. Alan Smith has to be one of the worst.

Jamie...just let me just wipe this gobshite off...Carragher the worst, Gary Neville the @Bus-Conductor of pundits* sort of the best

*love their critique but don’t think either can manage a football team :D

Neville, Jenas and Murphy are the most thoughtful. The rest are just parroting cliches most of the time.

The worst of the worst has to be McMannaman.

Best for me...Gary Neville. I also find it quite refreshing that Craig Bellamy just doesn't follow the agenda, often disagreeing with another's view whilst backing his thoughts up with well thought out reasoning.

Listening to Owen commentate has to be right up there as one of the worst. Dour would be an understatement.

Neville, Lampard and Jenas actually talk about things that you might not have noticed yourself.

I can't stand Sutton. Michael Owen is boring.

Not sure if you can call him a pundit, but Garth Crooks is awful as well.

Gary Neville is by far the best for me, and although I’m surprised at saying it out loud, Ian Wright is pretty good at times too.

Michael Owen isn’t all that bad.

I suffer from occasional insomnia and listening to Owen has done wonders for my ailment.

Good shout on Lampard. I didn't want to like him, but I have to admit he has surprised me. A very knowledgeable guy who you want to listen to

Very similar to what I was going to say. When watching the analysis I want somebody to highlight something different like players movement off the ball, shapes of play and build up.

I can't remember who it was but one of the best pre-game analysis I've seen was focused on Barca before a CL final in the days of Eto and how their movement off the ball dragged defences out of position so they could attack the space that opens up. Then in the match the exact same tactic was being used and executed to perfection. It really gave a whole new level of insight into the game beyond focusing on individual talent or one team having better players than the other.

This is a big reason why I can't stand Henry as all he seems to say is "POW" or he'll look down, glace up again and smile while saying "you know" then nod his head  while Lawro, Shearer, Owen, etc... all seem so media trained that they don't want to say anything controversial so churn out tired cliches (almost as bad as Barton, Collymore & Savage who only say something because it's controversial :banghead:)

Worst (amongst equals) - Paul Ince.

Guy just seems to be in a permanent panic attack in front of camera. Reminds me of the feeling of the first few seconds of an important work presentation, bricking it inside...

Best is Neville, but Lampard will give him a run for his money as he’s an excellent and articulate analyst.

Worst is Michael Owen, the fella’s mouth is on fast forward whilst his brain is on pause.

JJ and Danny Murphy were my favourites on MotD. Shearer was annoying as fuck. Does he rehearse at all? If he does then why the fuck is every 2nd or 3rd word an "err". Some of his sentences are like a scratched record where he repeats the previous couple of words after an "err". The keeper, err the keeper has err absolutely no chance.

Who does he think he is, Foghorn Leghorn?

His iPhone's Siri spoke whilst he was mid-sentence the other day.

Made more sense than him.

For me like most, Neville and JJ are probably the best. I don’t mind Rio and I’ve liked Craig Bellamys work lately as he doesn’t seem to just follow the common trend.

Michael Owen is awful. I actually don’t mind Henry.. he’s not great but he isn’t the worst. For me that’s Jamie Redknapp, he literally offers nothing. Just states the obvious and basically agrees with whatever he’s asked. Absolutely no insight from him whatever.

He doesn’t do much punditry but from the ex-pro genre I quite like Mathew Upson, comes across well. Doesn’t speak in cliches, seems reasonably intelligent and articulates himself well.

Best: Neville, Carragher, Jenas and Barry Glendenning (guardian football weekly podcast, not sure if that counts though)

Worst: Mcmanaman, J Redknapp, Hoddle is en'arf dull too

I find Gerrard unbelievably dull. For a fella who showed a lot of passion on the pitch he seems awfully flat in the studio, even when talking about his former team.

He has a dull voice but think he was actually quite good.

Best for me is Gary Neville by an absolute country mile. Provides genuine insight into what's going on both tactically and technique-wise for individual players. I feel like I've learned something after he's done analysing the game because he shows and explains things that aren't necessarily obvious at first glance/to the untrained eye etc. Only downside is he has an irritating voice but I'll forgive him that because he's so good otherwise. Wish there were more like him. Jenas and more recently Lampard are similar in terms of providing actual insight, albeit in different ways.

Worst is much harder, mostly because there are so many terrible ones. I'm gonna have to go rogue and have separate categories for that one I'm afraid.

Most pointless: Shearer
Never heard him say anything even remotely insightful. He either just narrates what you can see with your own eyes or just states the bleedin' obvious. Pretty much anybody who's ever watched a game of football could replace him with no drop in quality. In fact, just leaving him out altogether wouldn't negatively impact MOTD in any way.

Stupidest opinions: Redknapp Jr.
How he's lasted so long I'll never know. Doesn't half talk bollocks 99% of the time. Just a mouthy git really with not much going for him.

Least watchable: Chris Sutton
I can't watch or listen to stuff when he's on because he's just argumentative for the sake of being argumentative. It's impossible to have a proper discussion when he's around. Some people seem to like him due to the false idea that he's "challenging the status quo" or whatever but he really doesn't. He just takes whatever everyone else has said and then disagrees with it and then talks over the top of them whenever they try to come back until the host moves things on because the producer is obviously in their ear telling them everyone's sick of it and doesn't care any more.

Most amateur: Steve McMannannannmannnmanamon
Despite having done punditry work for a number of years on different channels around the world, he still seems incredibly awkward and clumsy all the time like it's his first gig and he doesn't really know what he's doing. Even on the once in a blue moon that he actually has something proper to say, he's not articulate enough to put it across and often just starts sentences before giving up half way and saying something else. Most of the time he just chimes in with cliches and obvious statements like the rest of them but manages to do it while seeming like he's been drafted in at the last minute.

Least likable: Michael Owen and Owen Hargreaves
Both really boring and not particularly insightful, both speak weirdly, both have "Owen" in their name...but most of all I just can't shake the fact that they both seem like complete ****s. On the odd occasion that either of them say something insightful, it's usually followed up by them moaning and getting all salty about how hard done by they were in their careers. I get it, it must be awful to have the world at your feet and then have that all fizzle out due to a series of injuries, I'd be bitter too, but both of them seem to use any opportunity they can to shoehorn some story in about Fergie, Pulis or whatever and seem to blame everyone else for why their careers fizzled out rather then admitting that it was a combination of bad luck and a poor attitude. They both give me the right hump

Anyway, rant over :)
