I agree with you in general but with young Argentine players I think they’d mostly pick us as long as Poch is around.

Possibly, I think the choice between us currently is closer than it’s been for a long time certainly pl era but you could understand players choosing Utd believing they can return to glory over us actually achieving glory. Unfortunately winning stuff is where we still come up short

There may be another step on said ladder, but there’s also a bald headed troll tying your feet to said ladder unless you provide him with a bucket full of gold :troll:

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against getting the maximum for our players that leave, but the tough negotiating stance by DL could put you off coming in the first place :)

I don't think that would put a player off. Bale and Modric got their moves to Real Madrid, Walker got his move to City. When the big clubs come calling we usually sell, just at the highest price possible. The manager has even gone on record saying anyone that wants to leave can go.

Of course he doesn’t have to move if a bid is accepted, i have played Football Manager before. But the fact is that a player at Betis is hardly going to turn down a move to pretty much the biggest club in the world in the hope that maybe Spurs will come in for him later. We’ve been here often enough before to know what it is that motivates players, and Champions League football has very little to do with it.

But it's not a case of we might come in later. We're in for him now.

What do you think is the significance of him wearing our top? Or is there not one & he's just charged up with no idea what he's doing?

At a guess he's supporting us in the champions League final because he was room mates with Poch once upon a time.
He's a city fan now though because of Aguero.

Probably already been said a million times in here but there’s no way we’ll sign Lo Celso if Eriksen stays and we get Ndombele. Even if Levy has a miraculous personality transplant and decides to splash mad papes, I’m not sure it’s Poch’s style to have that many options in one department.

ITK would suggest otherwise.

I'm not sure Poch has actually been given that option before tbf.

But I'd be surprised if he didn't want the following:

Central Midfielders: Sissoko, Winks, Dier, Lo Celso, NDombele

Attacking Midfielders/Forwards: Eriksen, Alli, Son, Moura, Lamela

At the end of the day, a team needs depth to win things. How many times next season will we have a fully compliment of healthy players to choose from? Very few times I'm willing to bet, so when players are out injured you still need depth in the side.

Believe what you like but 18 years of ENIC would suggest otherwise. I hope they’re right (y)
With respect, 18 years in which we’ve built a new, world-class, state-of-the-art stadium; world-class training facilities; and have gone from a slumbering, misfiring former giant that struggled to finish mid-table, (at one point was flirting with relegation as late as May) to a club that was being talked about as potential champions this season and which has qualified for the CL four seasons in a row?

If that’s mismanagement by ENIC, all hail mismanagement!

One league cup and now our first trophyless decade since WW2. Time to invest in the squad, or at least replace those who have left/are likely leaving. Cheers.

I agree with your post. But still think that leaves us a bit light. We need someone in the attacking midfield / forward line who has pace and power. If Son and/or Moura is out, then we have no pace in the side.

But that’s not at issue. We all want signings. But alleging mismanagement when you look at where we are compared to where we were is a bit of a stretch wouldn’t you say?

It’s like the ‘we never buy anyone’ trope. It’s only the last two windows and ITK has given us reasons that are nothing to do with ENIC. What about the dozens of windows before when we did sign players?

People have short memories, it seems...

Sorry, cliff, one further point: the decade isn’t over until next year, so if we win something next year, the record stays intact. Cause for optimism, I’d say! (y)
