Nike will be loving this publicity

This isn’t a bakers in Bolton that put some dough in the oven and amazingly it came out shaped like a cock. They then ring BBC Manchester and get some quirky publicity. This is Nike, one of the top brands globally ever.

Pah, I mean, who buys a goalie shirt anyway?!

(Ok, so I actually have a lovely Keepers shirt from the old Adidas/Holsten days and it's a lovely shirt but I've never worn it because it has stupid elbow padding).

Edit... View attachment 138899
It's a bit silky isn't it? You could go on Strictly with that.

There have been some truly horrific keepers shirts over the years but the 90's had so many disasters.

As a 90's teen I love that decade there were many great things about but it's fashion (for the most part) wasn't it's finest hour

GK shirts always resembled lairy shell suits; oddly I don't recall Spurs having many appalling GK shirts in its history, maybe Ian Walker wore the odd minger but I don't recall many compared with other clubs in the league.

Was that when really baggy football shorts came back along with Man Utd's lace up collar? I can't quite quite recall as they may have been early noughties

Yeah, all of the Spurs shirts I've got from that period are still absolutely massive on me because of the fashion of the time.
Oversized baggy clothes was the thing.

Baggy football shorts came back into style in 1991 when renowned trendsetters Tottenham Hotspur unveiled a special new kit for the FA Cup Final against Nottingham Forest, to be worn by such fashion icons as Paul Walsh and Vinny Samways. It's now thought that the rustling sound of excess material caused by the shorts of Gary Mabbutt as he raced toward the ball in extra time unnerved the usually unflappable Des Walker, causing him to become distracted and head into his own net. This, and Spurs' ultimate victory, led to football clubs demanding baggier shorts, and ultimately baggier shirts, thereafter.

True story (apart from the bits I made up). The difference in shortage may be seen in the photograph below, notably by comparing Messrs. Lineker and Clough.

I was listening to Max + Charlie baker on talksport earlier, pair of them joking that Max was wearing full chain mail and Charlie had an England flag stapled to his face and had got someone to shoot him in the eye with an arrow to demonstrate how patriotic they were :D

They interviewed... I dunno, someone, about the team and and they also said they thought Southgate had done an incredible job and it struck me: it's all about "managed expectations". No matter how hyped some fans get, it'll never be as rabid as it was during the late 90s - early 00s, where we expected to win everything, England songs were charting, the whole country would be up for it, then we'd all be very English about it when we didn't win anything.

Southgate has lowered the bar significantly, he's made the team so vanilla that any mention of potentially doing well now comes across as hopeful optimism rather than fan driven confidence.
I remember the 90’s and nawties well, for all the drama and failings of the national team there was always massive support.
Even mid week friendlies would see the pubs packed, I don’t know if it’s a generation thing now but that certainly doesn’t happen now.
My youngest lad wants to stay up and watch it but I just can’t face being bored to death yet again!

Yeah, my heyday was probably that period, especially late 90's on because there was a big group of us who used to watch every game in the local pub, which was always heaving.
The 2002 tournament was awesome because the pub would open at about 7am and we'd just stay out drinking til closing time.
Have some great memories from that tournament, some really boisterous but happy times.
Being asked to leave a whetherspoons because the office folk were coming in for lunchtime and we were all singing England songs.
Then later taking over a karaoke night, with us all wailing our way through all the football songs.

A whole pub full of people outside singing songs to the passing cars, draping our flags over every Volvo because, you know, Sven. Then booing every German car that went past.
All done with smiles and much confusion from the commuters just going to work.

Then adopting a couple of confused Koreans who come to watch their game.
We all stayed to watch their game with them and briefly became Korean supporters for a couple of hours.

Having a drunken game of footie in the pedestrianised part of the town centre with a crappy plastic football from Woolies or somewhere at 10 in the morning.

All done with high spirits and never any trouble.

Always used to take holiday off work to coincide with England games.

I don't know if it's age, having kids or what but it's just not the same anymore.

I agree with the team except wouldn't play Foden on the right, since he definitely won't be playing there normally. Probably would have had Foden left and Bowen on the right

It's a strong line up, shouldn't look out of place against Brazil. I've got money on 3 or more goals being scored, and need Foden and/or Slabhead to score.

Looking forward to seeing future Spurs captain and goalscorer extraordinaire Gallagher tear it up before Maddison comes on for the last 20min and predictably does his ankle ligaments.
