What's Hugo done for you that suggests that he should be captain?

He's captain of France, he's very vocal, sacre bleu, and he's sexy.

Vertonghen switches off too much for me to be captain at the moment, would rather he had another season getting used to the pace of the league.

Shit yeah I forgot he captained France - I wasn't necessarily disagreeing with you there, just wondered.

Kaboul is an option, Sandro, Bale even?

Could give it to Benny for LOLs

1) Kaboul
2) Lloris
3) Vertonghen
4) Sandro
5) Bale

We have lots of potential captains. It's great for the club.

I see Bale's name being banded about here. Why do some people assume that "Star players" make good Captains? Considering his switching off during games, diving etc, I do not think so somehow. Of all the people named here so far he would be bottom of my list. Kaboul for me, then Vert. Saying that, I would put Hugo ahead of Vert if he was an out field player.

Agreed.

We can't have a captain who costs us several goals over the course of a season, even multiple goals in the same game (like Everton at home).

Michael Dawson is a brilliant club captain, and he should remain in that role for as long as he is at Spurs in my opinion. But Kaboul has to play ahead of him - he is our best and most consistent defender so is therefore the obvious choice for captain.

Sandro leads by example, but he doesn't show the required skills vocally in my opinion to be captain. That may change if he was given the armband mind, as shown when he has captained Brazil for example.

Lloris is a leader and an organiser, but I don't see what benefit making him captain would bring?

Bale is simply not an option, unless he demands it. Because we give him whatever he wants, when he wants it.

Longer-term, Lewis Holtby is an obvious candidate. He just needs to polish up his headless chicknen-ness.

I am not championing Lennon as captain whatsoever, but I liked it when AVB gave him the armband. I thought that was very good man management from AVB.

Lloris or Vertonghen for me. Someone mentioned that Vertonghen has too many lapses in concentration to have such a role which may be true but being captain may have a positive effect in that respect.

I think Dawson has good attributes to be a captain but I'd personally pick Kaboul ahead of him in terms of selection anyway if he was to recapture his form.

Dawson is our club captain. Nothing has happened to suggest that would change.

Kaboul is an excellent player, but not a leader by any stretch.

Vertonghen is a player similar in attitude to Dawson, and would make an excellent vice captain. Lloris also a good captain who leads by example. Never had a problem with keepers as captains, re: Oliver Kahn.

Throw a curve ball into the debate by saying: Lennon was captain against Lazio, has been at the club for around 8 years and having the arm band may cause him to thrive.

Some players thrive with the responsibility of the arm band such as Beckham for England or RVP at the scum his last season

Daws should stay club captain with Jan as vice.

Agree. Daws is a good captain. Not sure how many games he will play once Kaboul is fit, so happy to have Verts as captain them. I strongly favour the captain being a centre back and able to see play in front of him. It should never be a goalkeeper though!

He came from Amsterdam, to captain Tottenham...

Might keep him more alert in the quieter periods.

Has to be Jan Vertonghen. Just has to be.

Im proud that Michael Dawson is our captain, however i do not expect him to start for us next year, so would have absolutely no problem with him being club captain, ala Ledley. But it has to be Jan.

Vertonghen for me. Not so keen on Goalies or strikers being captain generally.

Vertonghen isn't foot perfect on the pitch but he's the closest we've got to genuine captain material. Not being foot perfect hasn't prevented Dawson being captain.
