What is this obsession with net spend. It like gamers and there obsessions with pixels and frame rates.

We spent 100 Million on players a couple of seasons ago. Splashing money around doesn't automatically mean success. We brought decent players , that at the time we were all extremely excited to have brought, that summer ITK thread was glorious. But..yeah it didn't work out.

Threads like these kind of sums up , how out of touch football these days is with reality. You just can't go round spending money that you don't have.

We spent $100m on 5 players, we should have really took the chance to get 2-3 world class players, I know it's easier said than done.

Unless you're Liverpool paying big money and big wages does mean success. I like the way we're run and I think DL is the best chairman in the PL but his penny pinching has worked against us.

It simply doesn't though.

Sorry.

Daniel Levy to season ticket holders, 2003

"As a loyal supporter, your contribution is invaluable. Getting behind the team and investing in the Club is vital to our success."

I'd agree that season ticket holders do 'invest' in the club. Their contribution had been vital.

You really can't tell the difference between an owner and a season ticket holder?

Do you think that because you bought a tin of beans from tesco you are now an investor?

I can buy a shirt from tottenham, that money will be invested into tottenham. Doesn't mean I am anything less than fan.

If that's the case I own a fucking lot of Amazon!

You are a customer, not an investor. No offense mate, but how have you not got that yet?

We may not be investors in the owner sense but football fans are much more than just customers

Spot on. Something that normal people understand but some on this forum just don't grasp. It's not rocket science is it.

There are Owners who are fans and who have put their personal money into the club. If it's done without risking their financial security or the club's then what's wrong with that? Is it a greater financial commitment than the season ticket fan who gives 10%?

They are both businesses that have customers. You are a customer of thfc. No matter what percentage of your income you spend on them.

But Daniel Levy said I was 'investing' in the club.

Is he lying?

That is where you are mistaken. We have brand loyalty that is not seen in most other industries but we are simply customers.

You are giving money that is being invested into the club. You are investing into a season ticket. But you personally are not making an investment in the club. You will not own any of it. You will just rent out a seat for the next season.

In the context of this conversation we aren't though.

@NEVILLEB 's argument is that because we spend money on the club, so should the investor. It's an argument that simply doesn't work though.

As has been said we're much more invested emotionally than we would be in any other product we use/consume but in the business sense, which is what this thread is about, the percentage of our money that we spend on the club has little to nothing to do with how much the investment club that owns us is willing to spend.

Yes there are. But what's your point? We don't have one of those owners.

Ok @Dillspur @NEVILLEB , you are a season ticket holder for your whole life. You buy the shirt and the matchday programme. You drink bovril till your piss turns brown and sing till your voice runs out. What do you think happens when you die? Maybe a little mention in the matchday programme. Maybe they let your kids scatter your ashes in the center circle. The next season someone else will be sitting in your seat singing along and spurs will not bat an eyelid. You are a customer.

You forget to mentioned that we'll be taking our sons/daughters/grandson/granddaughters and then they'll be taking theirs to future games, being a football fan is more than being a customer

For you yes.

Not for ENIC, and not for most owners in the modern game.

Brand loyalty.

Tottenham Hotspur is a multi million pound entertainment business. It is no longer the local club where the players live round the corner and you can meet them in the pub after the game.

I love spurs and always will. But i know that at the end of the day i am viewed as a customer.

Don't get me wrong spurs work very hard to build brand loyalty and gain new fans. Work in the local community as well as abroad. But it is all aimed at maximising revenue. Every club works this way from top to bottom. Even the likes of chelsea and city.
