We need to go back to 4-4-2. We create more chances, score more goals, and defoe / crouch / pav look far more comfortable.

As world class as VDV is, his signing has been a hinderance in the sense that Harry has picked his strongest 11 and then fit those players into a system (4-4-1-1) which has resulted in an isolated striker and lack of support upfront. VDV game after game is tending to fall deeper and deeper too, sometimes picking the ball up from the back four - that tells you everything.

4-4-2 ...

Striker problem? What striker problem?..

Have some faith guys, this team bought us top 4 last year, and whilst others around us have improved, we've got a red hot bale, vdv & a team that has had 1 more year together to gel and only get better, so technically speaking, there has been improvement  Still plenty to play for, its not over till the fat lady sings. Coys.

I agree with you. VDV is great, but his inclusion has killed us in terms of striking threat imo. Modric's move to the middle has also made us weak and open.

100%.

I want to see..

Gomes

Hutton Dawson Gallas BAE

VDV Modric Hudd/Pal Bale

Defoe Pav

You cant always play your best 11 players, and if that means dropping Lennon (or BAE and pushing Bale to LB and sticking VDV on the left) then so be it! Harry's trying to fit square pegs into round holes and its just not working. Our strikers arent scoring goals, but spurs arent creating chances for them.

Its not like Defoe / Pav / Crouch miss sitter after sitter. It just seems that way because their often not sticking away the ONE chance they do have!

The idea in the media that spurs are currently one of the most expansive exciting teams to watch in the EPL to me is bullshit & is purely based upon our away win at the goons and counter attacking style (2 vdv goals vs villa) and our victories in the CL which are largely down to mr g. bales performances down the left vs Inter.

We need to go back to basics. 4-4-1-1 didnt get us top 4 last year.

this may sound strange to some, But remember when we had berbatov away at chelsea when we let our 3-1 lead slip? Lennon was playing off the forward and really opened things up, we could use him there running at defenders, he is so tricky in those spaces and varrt on the right.

Could work? wont happen lol

Was just about to start a thread about the same thing. Is our only hope I think. Pav and Defoe need to start.

And dare I say it, vdv hasn't been very good the last few games. Maybe he should sit out for a bit. Or play on the left untill bale comes back. Or on the right with Charlie behind him to offer cover.

Thats actually a good shout. A lot of spurs fans will be like "are you mad, drop VDV?!?" .. but these decisions need to be made in football, drogba's been dropped, so has rooney, torres, berbatov.. no-one is untouchable. It will make VDV work harder for his place in the team.

We don't have 1 decent striker, let alone 2.

Thats bullshit. Defoe is a proven goalscorer, he's scored goals in the past, on a regular basis...he's just had a long-ish purple patch with injuries in between that have seriously effected a lot of peoples opinions. He needs a run in the team! Ditto for Pav. Crouch - just no.

Agreed. We'll score more goals purely because we'll be likely to have 2 targets in the box and more things will happen for us. VdV has to be on the right or left for the time being with Defoe and Crouch/Pavlyuchenko up top.

At the moment, 2 average strikers up front works better than one average striker up front and vdV wandering around. Maybe if we had more midfielders getting into the box or suggesting they'll score goals that would be different. Currently, Modric, Lennon or Bale get the ball and they only have 1 isolated target to aim for. It makes it too easy for defenders.

Oi, stop pointing out the flaws in my flippant negativity.

i have a radical suggestion, how about letting vdv form a partnership with one striker for at least 5 games

I am also inclined to agree with you here, something needs doing in a 'back to basics' kind of way.

The problem we have with going 4-4-2 with VdV in the side is that he would have to play on the right wing with Bale uninjured on the left. Reason is that when we did vs Arsenal, he was on the right and drifted in on to his good foot. I don't think he would work as well from the left.

I base this on the same theory as with Modric last season. He played on the left wing, with Lennon wide on the right. He drifted in onto his good foot. Modric didn't look good on the right on the couple of occasions he was used out there....

Bales off form again, maybe it was the injury not sure. VdV isn't as his best either. Either way, Silvas now tearing up for City, so is Tevez. Hart is fantatsic. Nasri, RVP and even Wallnut doing well at Arsenal. Not to mention Fibreglass. Utd unbeaten, Chavs coming strong again with Drogba and now Torres too. As for the playing together point, have the other 4 just not played for the past year? Im sure they have all played together too.

i agree with the 4-4-2 even for a few games , even if we have to drop vdv and use as a sub to replace modric or lennon or bale , something has got to change fast by looking at our last few games
