Thank you thank you thank you for signing Willian, I can't thank you enough!

We were going to sign Lamela anyway and all the indications surely are that if we had signed Willian then Andros would have gone this summer! We would have signed 3 wide players in Willian, Lamela & Chadli to add to an AVB favourite in Lennon and I can't see that we would gave kept Andros as well.

Add in the fact that his contract was running down, he was on low wages and we certainly didn't appear to falling over ourselves to be offering him a new one in the summer, the writing had we signed Willian was surely on the wall!

Personally and I argued this right from the Tbilisi game I think Andros has been brilliant, when people were slating him for doing too much early on and trying too hard to impress I strongly disagreed and still do, this kid has been a revelation from the moment we kicked off against Tbilisi.

I see nobody in the league who's better at getting at players and taking them on, nobody!

He has the potential by the end of this season to be the best wide player in the Premiership and that includes our new signings!

So thank you again Mourinho & Chelsea you done us a massive favour and from what I've seen you're also very welcome to Willian!

I will agree that I'm pleased that Townsend is getting a good run in the team and that they may not have happened if we had Willian but I thought we signed Eriksen because we didn't get him.
I would also argue that Jesus Navas is probably better at taking on the fullback but Townsend at the moment is top 3.

I don't think that's why we signed Eriksen, Ajax confirmed we had been talking for a while.

Navas isn't better than Lennon. I've never thought so and still don't. Both at their best and Lennon is the better player imo. Townsend isn't a better traditional winger than either of them but because he can come inside he is the better wide forward.

I think we will be seeing Townsend and Lennon as inverted wingers in the short term with Lamela and Chadli as their deputies. I don't think siggy is going to make it and will be gone in January.

We're doing a bit of Chelsea, by collecting a certain type of player and then not playing them.. Chadli and Lamela maybe victims of this cunning plan..

Except Willian would have been more likely to play on the left, so it would have meant:

Townsend Erikson Willian
Soldado

Which would have been a hell of a lot better than Sigurdsson.

So to be honest, fuck off Mourinho and Chelsea.

Indeed. Also, Mourinho and Chelsea should never be thanked under any circumstances and be told to fuck off at all times regardless.

This thread is a bit sad. First of all I don't think Jose wanted Willian. What appears to have happened is two oligarcs helped each other out , one wanting out of football the other wanting a BOGOF on players (Eto'o being still a great forward).

We should just be happy that we have a youth product that has come through, I am sure he still would have, as lets face it AVB hasn't exactly rushed the new faces into the team so Andros coud well have got game time.

I haven't seen Willian at all for Chelsea, but from what I have read he hasn't been great, but who knpws what he would have doen for us?

Also, with regards to Andros, he was frustrating with his frequent shooting, but he has calmed right down now and looks for a pass or a shot. I am thoroughly enjoying how he is playing now.

The only thing we need to thank Chelsea for is buying out AVB for us then sacking him. I can't see us getting AVB as head coach otherwise. I am grateful to Chelsea for that. Lol

It's really sad in a way that Spurs didn't give him a chance and we let him go on loan to QPR last season.
With him and Bale in the team we would definitely be playing in the Champions league now.

Why would Willian have been more likely used on the left?

Lamela
Willian
Chadli
Lennon

Contract running down, no real previous chances etc, sorry I can't see that Andros would gave stayed had Willian signed. Your post also implies that Andros was going to be an AVB first choice as well, I don't see that either. It's only Lennon's injury, Lamela's slow integration and the non arrival if Willian that got Andros his chance!

Funny how these things happen sometimes!

Willian always played on the left for Shaktar, or did whenever I saw him. Think he can play central too, but never saw him play right side.

I think Lennon's injury and Townsend grabbing his early chances to impress this season that have been the most influential apsects, not us not signing Willian.

Whilst it's true that Willian played more often left he also played plenty right side for Shaktar, and I saw Willian play for Shaktar a lot.

I think you're wrong, I don't think we would have gone in with 5 wingers/ wide forwards plus Holtby and Eriksen.
