Whilst it's true that Willian played more often left he also played plenty right side for Shaktar, and I saw Willian play for Shaktar a lot.

I think you're wrong, I don't think we would have gone in with 5 wingers/ wide forwards plus Holtby and Eriksen.

I have never seen him play right once - but confess I have only seen his CL appearances. Whoscored seem to agree though:

Says AM left/centre.

I'm not interested in that website but they have him 2 apps left and 1 right and only the other week he come on for Chelsea and played on the right.

Anyway it's not really the point, can't see us having hone in with 5 wide players, 3 new ones plus Lennon and Townsend? Don't buy that at all.

Willian is best in the number 10 position. If we spend £30m on a player then I expect them to play in their best position.

I'm glad we signed Eriksen instead though. He's a much better deal at less than half the price.

The way Townsend is playing though I can see Lamela possibly playing central with Eriksen on the left.

I will agree that I'm pleased that Townsend is getting a good run in the team and that they may not have happened if we had Willian but I thought we signed Eriksen because we didn't get him.
I would also argue that Jesus Navas is probably better at taking on the fullback but Townsend at the moment is top 3.
The stats would disagree, Townsend has the most successful dribbles in the Prem, and I believe, Europe.

Don't think it would have affected Townsend's situation. Lennon getting injured at just the right time for him to shine was the factor there. More likely is that Sig would have gone and/or we wouldn't have signed Eriksen.

Willian would have been bought to play centrally or on the left. He's only playing on the right for Chelsea because they have better players in the aforementioned positions (they only signed him to fuck us over afterall).

Fair do's, I personally don't think we were signing him to play right, I think we were already signing Lamela for that position.

Maybe they do but that may have something to do with Townsend playing more than Navas and Man City are more likely to play through David Silva.

Also Stats can be deceiving. Remy has more goals then Van Persie but I think you would struggle to find someone outside the Remy family that would pick Remy over Van Persie.

Your right, they can be deceiving, and I'm not really a stats kinda person, but in this case I am because dribbling is very much an individual thing, where as goal scoring relies on a lot of factors (teammates setting you up ect ect). I think Navas would find it hard to match those numbers, even if he played every week.

Looks events have turned full circle for Lennon. It was an injury to Routledge that opened the way for Lennon; and now Lennon's own injury has led to stardom for Townsend.

I think Lennon might well be used on the left from now on, he's still got a big part to play this season imo.

I am curious to see Townsend on the left with Lennon on the right. He used to be left sided player. I am sure he would be ten times more suited there than Sigurdsson.

Really?

I thought he has always played as right winger or a striker in his Leeds days.

IMO we were looking to line up:

Soldado

Chadli Willian Lamela

I think Levy breathed a huge sigh of relief when Chelsea came in and he was able to sign Eriksen instead. Can't help but think Levy was begrudgingly rewarding AVB with his main target.

You could be right about the position, not sure about the Levy stuff. Maybe.

Willian is not a winger. Never has been never will be.

He has been used on the right but he is a number 10 which makes his move to Chelsea even worse as they ahve about 3000 of them

He has played on the left but he was never a left winger.

That's like saying the Ginger Pele was a striker.
I said I was curious to see him now. He's changed, matured, he's more adaptable now and I believe he can do a good job on the left. I never felt Lennon was comfortable on the left.
