I think our mission from the start of last summer was to completely overhaul our (tbh, completely dire) strikeforce within 2 years. I reckon we are about half way there.

Keane > vdV

Crouch > Adebayor

Pav > Leandro

Defoe > wide forward e.g. Lavezzi (we've reportedly looked at Remy, Gervinho, Ruiz etc. before they moved elsewhere)

You are aware that the object on the larger side of ">" is greater?

Leandro would be an excellent signing in January as could be eased in with Adebayor as the main centre forward.

Then if we can't secure Adebayor permanently, hopefully he'd be ready to step up and be the main man (we'd obviously then need to sign another forward as cover / competition / partnership).

And if Defoe hits 15 or so before January Dan?

Should we sell Parker too as you didn't fancy him?

If Defoe hits 15, then 12 of them will come in one game at home to Norwich and that'll be followed by his traditional 15 month drought. A few gimmies from Adebayor doesn't make a good player of someone who has had more than a decade of mediocracy.

Defoe is getting on a bit (certainly in Levy's eyes) and never really fits into any system.

Yeah . I meant it in the 'to' sense.

We definitely need more than one #9. If we don't get Ade on a permanent then we still need to sign a second #9 in the summer.

Kevin Doyle would be a better choice than Leandro at this stage. Leandro would take a long time to settle in the league and there are still doubts about him being able to make the grade anyway.

But Leandro doesn't solve OP's worries about an injury to Ade. The kid can't play with his back to goal. So while he might be a good addition, he doesn't really solve that potential problem.

Realistic Dream scenario would be to loan/sell Pav and bring in Klasnic. Defoe may not be everyone' cup of tea but for the rest of this season as a possible partner for Ade then I'm happy. Klasnic has done well in the Prem and from what I've seen is physical enough to pay as a lone striker if needs be.

Then bring in Leandro as a 4th striker and use the rest of the seaosn to blend him into the squad and ease him into English life and football.

At the end of the season look to either sell Defoe or make him accept a place as a possible bit-part player.

The Fulham fella? Wouldn't a clue! From what I've seen of him he's pretty decent.

During the summer we were linked with a £10m bid but it came across as a random figure.

He'd be a good fit for us.

Adebayor will probably become distracted towards the end of the season.

New striker a good idea

Doesn't that rather depend on how well he does this season? I've never been the greatest fan, but he's clearly recognised that his performance last season was unacceptable and worked hard to get into shape over the summer. He could easily do his usual and lose his shooting boots at Christmas, but we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

Klasnic would be an improvement on Pav. Shirley Temple would be an improvement on the Pav we've seen this season. Good enough long-term? (Klasnic, not Shirley.)

We are gonna struggle to sign any striker of note is Jan as there are so few available, add to that there will be other top teams after them too hence the price will be driven up.
