Come now, we know its not about the money for you, it's about the power. The power and hubris you feel when the huddled masses of SC swarm around your feet, pleading up at you "please help me Dougal, please let me back in, I'll be good... please," and you, satisfyingly and perversely, with a wide grin on your face, and knowing that you have the power to aid them, whisper down "no..."If it came with a 50% pay rise.
£0 x 50%
Hmmm... Still no then.
Ok, that’s what happens.Come now, we know its not about the money for you, it's about the power. The amount of grown men seeing their arses over a rating on a football forum is fucking embarrassing tbh.
Let’s hope we either sign someone soon, or that everyone gets laid, or both.
So what's the point in having them then? The amount of grown men seeing their arses over a rating on a football forum is fucking embarrassing tbh.

Which reinforces the point, why have them? There's nothing wrong with having them but seeing people get upset by them is pretty funny, especially when people then quote the person who's given them the rating demanding an explanation.
Maybe it's just me but I find it hilarious when somebody gets mad enough to spend a large chunk of time going through somebodies posts spamming them as if it's going to have any effect on the person they're doing it to. Do they honestly think they're teaching the person a lesson by showing how rattled they are to spend the time to do that?
Which reinforces the point, why have them?
The "negative" ratings shouldn't be so close to the quote and reply buttons, ideally.
For me I think it is the consistent malevolent spammers are the most annoying.
The ones I refer to are those lurkers never have input to any thread on this site.
I honestly believe they are not in tune with the vibe and/or the online personalities that have evolved in here.
Which reinforces the point, why have them?
Not always the case though is it?Well they're pretty easy ways to let a user know the general consensus of their post without 40 replying the same points to debate them. If somebody gets a lot of spam ratings for example then that person can know their post has no relevance to the thread they're in so they should cease taking the conversation that direction or even delete their post.
I clearly might be out on a limb with my view on 'why have them at all then'. Easier to hit a button I guess.I find them quite useful. I might want to express simple agreement or appreciation for a post without adding anything further to it. It would be a shame not to be able to do this. A simple rating can assert a position. It also acknowledges the contribution of the member who made the post. In normal conversation we might say things like "yes I agree", or "good point" or "that's really interesting", or we laugh at a funny joke, but such remarks hardly warrant a post of their own in every case - that's where ratings come in.
Not always the case though is it?
People abuse it yet add fuck all to a debate, it happens all the time.
Actually looking back for the first time at the ratings I’ve given over 15 relatively quiet but engaged years here is quite voyeuristic (weirdly, considering I’m looking at myself) and very illuminating.
787 ratings given, of which only 20 negative. I think online me is much nicer than I really am
Also made me realise how long I’ve been a member of this site. And how much I appreciate Rob and the Mods’ work over the years x
It'll probably all sort itself out, it nearly always does on here.Well yeah hence why the admins have made a post saying people are using it wrong, people have been warned now, you have to now see if people can fall in line or they'll get banned.
