As people are quoting goal.com and an extract from the Times, and wondering if any of it is true, this is the original source of the interview courtesy of the Standart, a bona fide site, so if these words are in quotes then it is their translation of what Berbatov actually said yesterday after his announcement of setting up a Foundation for Talented Children.
Dimitar, how did you come up with this idea of establishing a foundation?
D.B: Honestly, it dawned on me while I was lying on the couch. Many ideas occur to me from time to time, but I let few people know about them. My dreams spread far beyond the football field, although I have now given myself to football completely.
Will there be a football school named after you?
D.B: It's only a project for now. There are many ideas, but the most important thing is to find sponsors. One day we can found a boarding-school where the kids will train football, but let's not put the cart before the horse, now.
And what will the first step in this direction be?
D.B: We have to first establish and register the foundation. We have already listed the people, who will be in its managing board, but I do not want to mention names for now.
Will your teammates in the national team - Martin Petrov, Stiliyan Petrov and Valeri Bozhinov, join in your project?
D.B: They are close friends of mine, but I haven't spoken with them, yet. The door is open for everybody.
Can we see you in the chair of a sports minister in the future.
D.B: My ambitions are great and I am interested in many different things. For now, however, I am focused only on the game.
Will you try to win over football legends like Zinedine Zidane, who is your partner in the UNICEF campaign, for your cause?
D.B: I'll be more than happy if football legends like him support my cause. But I think everybody is willing to give their support when the matter is about helping children.
Rumor is going about that representatives of FC Milan have approached you, is it true?
D.B: There is some interest on the part of the Italian club; that's all I can say about it. I'll be flattered to go to talks with them.
And what about Manchester United?
D.B: I know that Sir Alex Ferguson wants me in the team, but for now I play for Tottenham.
 IMO although he says that he is concentrating on playing Football he clearly has his mind on alot of other things, mainly connected with Bulgaria, and it has affected his form. You cannot underestimate the pressure from the media there (and the Football Union) for him to leave Spurs and sign for what they perceive to be a "bigger club". If he genuinely wants to stay at Spurs, or he has to, as a move doesn't come to fruition, I sincerely wish someone would advise him to stop stoking the fires as it looks and sounds tawdry, and as though he is hawking himself around. Whilst I appreciate there are different ways of speaking and what is considered polite or acceptable in different countries, it all sounds pretty tasteless to me. Either be quiet about it and move or state your position clearly. Stop wanting to have your cake and eat it. Please.
