The Dutch league has had so many great players over the years that it shouldn't be a concern. The strength in depth of the sides might not be there but there's undoubted quality there and always has been.

Players can flop from any league so we have have to scout properly but that's always true.

5 million? What land are you on.

Looking at 10-15 mill plus add ons I would say.

The 'land' where we don't have £10-15m to spend on a luxury youngster when we're in desperate need of an established player like Moutinho/Eriksen and a striker/wide player.

Eriksen is far from established in my opinion, still only 20 years old. But, although I agree that Moutinho could have a crucial role in getting us top 4, we have to sign young un-established players before other bigger clubs with ridiculous wages and transfer budgets become interested.

I know we need to get them young but £10-15m is a massive risk, especially when we don't have huge amounts of money to spend.

There's a fair amount of risk to every signing we make.

The obvious targets get taken by the clubs offering higher wages.

We can afford a decent transfer fee if the wage is reasonable.

I would say moderate risk at that fee... over 20 is a massive risk. But, semantics...

My point wasn't in disagreement with the notion of your post just the naivety of it. That goes without saying that we would love to take promising players on almost risk free but you have to wake up and smell the coffee.

Funny how people on here complain that the league standard in Erdevisie (yes the standar in the EPL is higher) without forgetting that this "poor" league has proudced many more world class players than the EPL....
There's of course no guarantee that Maher will turn into a hit for Spurs (or any other EPL team) but it's worthy a try, as this guy is full of talent (well, worthy a try IF he's attitude is right; something the scouts should/would know)

And the same people are willing to slate the England team for having no World Class players (ok, Rooney is pretty good).

The English league isn't good just because of the English players in it. Most of the Netherlands team don't play in the Eredivisie, and for good reason.

But many start there, it is a step-up league. If you are good enough, you leave a league like that before you are 22/23 to go to epl, league 1, etc.

Exactly, the Dutch league tends to produce higher quality, cheaper players than England does. We should do plenty of our shopping for players there, as well as France and Germany. We can't compete for many of the players in more expensive leagues.

Forget it for a couple of years. Said himself that he saw plenty examples where players who left on a young age didnt make it and he doesnt want to be that guy. Smart kid, will sign for Ajax or PSV this winter or next summer. I obviously hope Ajax, but since PSV kind of took Narsingh away from us im confident that our board wont lose again to them.

It's not that bad. We usually have 5 starters from our own league now which can run up to 6/7 depending on our opponent... we're building towards brasil and we're using our talents well :)
