I'm nearly certain that Scarlett is going to be given chances in the midweek matches. Forgoing a striker just doesn't make sense otherwise.
If that was the case I would have thought Scarlett would have replaced Kane midweek rather than Son.

Traore does solve problems just by doing what he does. If he can start adding better shooting and crossing, he becomes a huge upgrade. We saw at the weekend how much trouble he caused against Tanganga, Sanchez, Hojberg and Skipp, often pulling two to him or outright beating someone one on one. Having players on cards early. Gil did the same yesterday. Beat one guy, draw another out and there is someone open in the middle. That is what has been missing. It's what other managers build their game plan around. Currently, the opposition plan is to stop the ball getting to Kane. The quicker we move the ball and the more space we open up for others, the more goals we will score. Play the ball quickly is step one. Get Bergwijn, Dele, Sessegnon, Moura more confident - that's step two. Incorporate players who can use their skills to beat players one on one is the third step. Quicker play with more goalscoring threats and more players who befuddle the defenders and you get to step four. Fourth step is the opposition keeper pulling the ball out of his net

We absolutely have an issue with creating

If we are playing against a low block, then yes we need that intelligent creativity but Traore isnt that - I think that is what I meant by my initial post.

Nuno knows more than I do but i dont see someone to hit on the break with their pace as someone who we need. Id rather like others have said, someone who can create with their passing and vision, Traore certainly isnt that.

I phrased my initial post incorrectly..

I agree with your point but a player who can dribble past 3 players easily, will create chaos, even for a low block team. It forces people to make uncomfortable decisions, which could be as useful as an incisive passer.

I personally would rather another striker and a creative passer think Ndombele but someone who actually wants to play football. I can see the benefit of Traore with the reasons you stated but I guess im happy with Lucas doing that role - he has been doign it pretty well. Not like Traore is clinical

Exactly. The goal is to pull defenders out of position - and that can be done with an incisive pass, or with instinctive movement off the ball, or with a player can dribble past a defender.

One thing that gets overlooked a little with Traore, I think, is that he not only has pace - but he is extremely quick, and has the short-bursts of agility and acceleration to beat players, even if they are in a compact low block.

Still not seeing this signing and hoping that we put the funds elsewhere, so I'd be hoping that if it drags on for more than tomorrow without looking probable that we pass on it and put the cash towards someone else. None of us want to see us end up in a protracted transfer at this point in the window because it's clear that it'll be holding up other potential deals if that ends up being the case, and it's clearly not as simple as we'd have hoped.

He is amazing at his one dimension, but it really only seems to be the one dimension, and I would love us to sign players with better baked in creativity than someone who I see as an amazing role player, but for more money than such a player warrants. A lot of that money has to be loaded into the fact we think he'll learn to eventually have a better end product, but it's one that Nuno couldn't find in him at Wolves, and that he's been criticised for his entire career. I just don't find brute forcing your way around people exciting in general, personally, and would far rather watch players with innate skilful creativity in passing. That was always my issue with Sissoko. Watching Bryan yesterday was a joy. I think that's what we should be aiming for more of.

Rather Adama than nobody, so if we do quickly close this then great, but ideally rather someone with more immediate end product than Adama if poss.

Initially, I was a massive ‘no’ in regards to this signing.
Then, after watching him against us i convinced myself it could work. He is busy, exciting, gets you off your seat.
I then concluded, he’s not that good. I love the excitement he brings, but I feel he’s just not that good.
Seems like a lovely bloke though!

And in players like Kane, Son & Dele we have the players to capitalise on that, far more so than Wolves.

When Traore was first linked with us my initial response was pretty much "WTF?!?!?". That will have been at least in part because I have a tendency to favour technique, game-awareness and tactical intelligence over physicality. As the summer has gone on, I'm starting to think more and more than he could be a great option for us when Kane is injured/rested and Son is playing as a no.9.

I still think we need a decent CF option for cup games though, so that we aren't constantly forced to decide between overplaying Son/Kane or being incapable of scoring. I felt that Vinicius (albeit too expensive to keep on) and Llorente (albeit too old to keep on) were both adequate options for cup games, whereas it's probably a bit too soon for Scarlett.
