Wolves reject proposal from Spurs insisting winger Adama Traore is not for sale
Tottenham Hotspur were ready to pay a £5 million loan fee for the winger
Tottenham’s Hotspur’s bid to sign Adama Traoré has suffered a blow with Wolverhampton Wanderers standing firm in their desire to keep the winger.
Spurs have targeted Traoré after accelerating talks this week and had hoped to structure a loan deal with a view to a permanent move.
Wolves immediately rejected an initial proposal of a loan deal that included a £5 million loan fee and are adamant they do not want to sell the Spain international this summer.
Traoré is viewed as a key player under new head coach Bruno Lage and integral to their future. Negotiations over a new contract will advance when the transfer window closes.
When asked after the Carabao Cup victory at Nottingham Forest if he expects Traoré to stay, Lage said: “Yes, I think so, we want to create a strong side, a better side to be competitive.
“We need competition for a long Premier League season and the League Cup, if players are not fit we need people to come in for them.”
Traoré has two years remaining on his contract and was believed to have been interested in following his former head coach Nuno Espirito Santos to Spurs, but that has not changed the Wolves stance.
It remains to be seen whether or not Spurs try to test that resolve again before the transfer window shuts, but the news of Wolves’ unwillingness to negotiate will come as a blow to Nuno.
The Portuguese is a huge fan of Traoré and wanted the former Barcelona youngster to provide greater pace and adaptability to his squad.
? got excited then thinking we definitely won’t be lumbered with him before reading the bid rejected. Hopefully we have a modicum of judgement remaining and that explains the loan rather than money bid.
Neg me up, it only makes me stronger. ?
Want us to get in for Damsgaard so much. A real quality footballer.
