Yeah, over 40 is pushing it. But we should have had an alternative lined up, instead we are now short up front.
I guess it depends on whether we see him as a main target.

In the past we've tested the water with players like Zaha and Grealish, hoping for a cheap deal. Once the cheap deal was not available we stopped our interest.

But we have paid out for Ndombele and Davinson.

We can't get everything sorted in one window. I hope Traore has set his sights on coming to us and in the next window or two I hope we can get him.

The ship has probably sailed, or rather he will only come to us if he doesn’t have a particularly good season imo.

What does that even mean!? The lesson that sometimes businesses don't come to an agreement on the valuation of an asset? Do you really think Levys face-palming himself going "come on Daniel, when will you learn to just pay any price whatsoever for any player...I'm such an idiot!".

It was a play on words a bit of fun if you will.

I'd be happy to try any of them, but Traore is a unique talent. There are loads of fast, tricky wingers but Traore terrorises teams every match.

Sancho was playing for United against wolves. Supposedly one of the worlds best wingers, and he was anonymous. First start, new league, young etc I'm not saying he won' t come good but Traore would never have a game like that. He's something else.
Agree staggered how poor and ineffective Sancho looked against Wolves. Watching that game you would be forgiven for thinking Traore was the big money player out there and Sancho was no better than James

His contract is within the last two years. If we're the best team interested in him then surely we're still an option.

We need his team mates to keep missing the chances he creates for them to make his stats remain bad.

i’d rather doku or Antony personally as they’re as good or better dribblers and in antony’s case with a much better all round game while still being extremely fast. And without the horrific career numbers. I don’t mean that as a criticism of Traore just such a weird player to try to assess when the strengths and failings are so equally compelling.

55-65mil for a 25 year old Spanish international that has a truly unique set of skills, can turn defence in to attack quicker than anyone else and scares the shit out of opposition who often have to team up on him.

If Grealish with 1 good season in the prem is worth 100mil, Harry is 180mil (I believe that was popular consensus on here), Gil (1 season at a decent level - no prem experience) 25 mil and Lamela, Emerson (1 season at a decent level - no prem experience) 25 mil, Dan fucking James 30 mil, Ben Whyte 50 mil, Ramsdale 28 mil etc. etc. etc. then Traore is easily 50+

Whatever, I think all the fees paid or quoted for the above are ludicrous but those that think Traore in this insane market is valued at 40mil or less needs to reassess.

It's a shame but anything over £40m is very risky. I'd rather hold onto the funds and look elsewhere in January although why we didn't forsee this situation earlier I have no idea.
Those funds won’t be there in January. They always miraculously disappear. This is no different from any other summer window really. Nuno will say he’s very happy with the squad so if it goes horribly wrong he’s the scape goat. In January we will be told by Nuno, as he’ll be told to say it by Levy, that it’s very difficult to buy in January as no clubs will sell decent players mid season.

Don P was always on his phone lining up plenty of options to pull the trigger at the best one. And yet no change to how it always is. hope he’s ok with this.

Maybe or maybe not, the future is unknown but I get your point ?

I agree really. It is expensive for sure but like you say, I'd feel more comfortable paying this fee for Traore than for another potential Ndombele or Sanchez, as you're also pretty much paying for exactly what you will end up getting, which isn't always the case with players from other leagues. Also, we don't have Champions League, and there are other teams that can offer better wages for some of the best players and someone like Traore, may just be more of our bracket for the time being.

People use the fact of him not being scooped up by the big clubs as a negative but if anything, I don't see the problem in getting some of the best of the players that are just outside of the field the 'top clubs' would be looking in, it's one of the things that has elevated Leicester to where they've been in the last few years and gotten them a trophy. I just feel like Traore sits near the top of that range of players.

Really hope we act fast whenever the opportunity may present itself again and beat off any potential competition.

Sticking with my feelings in the ITK thread about this. If he was that important a purchase then we should have begun the window with him and had plenty of time to get the deal done right and freed up funds in necessary, not tried to get it done with a week or so left and seemingly shuffling Bergwijn off at the last minute or something completely unplanned. It's absolutely not a good way for us to spend such a sum and make sure that we've done it wisely given that every other player we've spent serious cash on has not turned out to be worth half as much. Who the timing is down to, who knows, but I know I don't blame DL for pulling the plug at this price as half of the people even here don't think we should sign him, especially for 40+ odd, never mind 50.

Never understood the clamour myself to be honest and I don't remember anyone here very fussed about the player at the beginning of the window, yet it seems to have ended with him being an amazing and transformative player that the window is ruined if we do not sign. Always like to see a player that clearly has a talent do well, so I hope that he has a storming one this season, but history suggests that he'll put in a lot of running and not achieve what he should do again. Good luck to him, but happy that we passed for this price. Far more frustrated by the lack of another option or a creative/link CM, and both lay at Fab's door for me. 10 deals for positions lined up at a time my arse!

I won't lie, I've seen none of them play bar Doku, and that was only in the Euros, so I'll take your word for how good they are.
My preference for Traore over pretty much any winger is because of how consistently he uses his physical gifts to devastating effect.

You almost feel he was a player that started getting pushed forward by Nuno as he won each passing game. We weren't really linked with him and definitely didn't bid for him before the first game of the season. Maybe Nuno felt emboldened by the subsequent wins to start asking for his own top targets.

I mean I know we were predictably linked to a bunch of Wolves players once Nuno joined, by why else did we wait until the last week of the window to start making moves.

Anyway, no way was he worth more than 40 million. Somebody saying 55 - 65k is absolute madness and some crazy over reacting to his actual ability. I went on some other rival fan forums to gauge their opinion on Traore and it seems he polarises opinion everywhere but the consensus was that anything over 40 million was a rip off. He would be a good option from the bench for the top 4 teams, but only if affordable and everyone highlighted his appalling end product. Even United fans as he was ripping them a new one on Sunday said that despite him beating their players and it looked good on the eye, he didn't damage them at all with any end product, and that just sums him up.

Obviously they didn't watch the game. My memory's not what it was, but I remember two very presentable chances for Trincao, one cleared off the line, the other he hit wide.

I feel like come the end of the season, Wolves will have had many a plucky performance where they could and should have done better (like their first few so far) against the bigger teams and will finish 9-12th. Adama will have his hand in both the could and should column in every game.

If the hype is still real at the end of the season for Adama we will make a bid accordingly which will most likely be for no more than £40m and it will be accepted

We may never know how many full backs he would have skinned for us only to leave Son and Kane with their hands down and palms facing towards him while the ball takes an annihilation course for the cockerel.

I’m shocked how many people would have sanctioned 50mil for him.. that’s insanity to me.
If there is one absolute truth of a large contingent of Spurs fandom on SC: They are obsessed with fast dribbling wingers. Crave them with every fiber of their being. And as soon as someone hypothesizes this specific dribbling winger is the true "gamechanger" they all seek then it's game over. Literally infinity is the only appropriate amount to pay for such a player.

Guilty as charged.
