Its classic chicken and egg is isnt it. The fans would cheer more if the team played better, and I am sure Adebeyor is correct that the players are aware of the fans disgruntlement, (hard to miss when your being booed off the pitch), and that cant be good for their morale and therefore their performances will reflect this.

It's not something that happened over night. The atmos has been progressively getting worse over the past few years (coinciding with the performances on the pitch).
My guess is it will be a very gradual change the other way also.

Ticket prices / season tickets cost are so high compared to other teams that fans have a right to expect a reasonable level of performance.
