Adebayor, can he drill/drive a ball?

Our new striker seems to have a good ability to hold the ball where it might look like he is about to get tackled, and his strength lies in his positioning. He is always in the right area at the right time and is very committed so far.

At the end of the day though, this means he gets a lot of chances (very good thing obviously), but last coupla games has struggled to put them away. Some have been headers but others just look like he can't really drill or drive a ball. He needs a long range style chip to score, or he poaches. Today at the hawthorns, he essentially missed a penalty and got lucky with foster gifting the ball back.

then the 3rd goal was his excellent positioning and commitment to keep on playing even in injury time rather than his ability to shoot that got him the goal.

i just hope if this guy can learn to really shoot a hard straight ball where he intends it, he could be lethal.. or is it too late in his career to get him doing that?

thoughts?

Don't worry about Adebayor, he is everything we need and more!

I clearly remember him scoring a couple screamers for the arse against us.

Jelly legs when it comes to the finish. Fine with taps ins, but anything else.....

I'm pretty sure he'd smashed quite a few in for Arsenal, well, certainly one against us. It's strange because I always thought of him in mind as someone who often 'breaks the net' with his finishes.

I thought he was still good today, scored 2, but could easily have had 4 or 5 to be honest.

It's a lot better than him not even having the chances to score I guess.. He's a quality player so I'm still optimistic that he will start slotting in his chances.

It is a worry, he keeps getting chances and missing them then scoring the scrappy ones. If he could finish to a higher standard wed be laughing. Still far far better than any other striker we have and we would miss him massively given what he contributes to the team should he go out injured or suspended etc.

We do need another striker in January though, preferably one that can do what Adebayor does and score on top of that, too much to ask?

Imagine how many Aguero would put away in our team.

Edit: One thing to remember is that he never had a pre season i guess.

He misses sooo many clear-cut goalscoring chances. It's frustrating, but fortunately he gets loads of chances every game he normally can't miss at least 1.

Im sure he can if needs be, but he just prefers to place his shots.

If we are going to be ultra critical then he has so far missed some quite easy chances, but at least he keeps getting in the positions to miss them and they havent affected the results in games as of yet as we keep winning.

He is such an improvement on Crouch in all areas that its nothing to worry about, Im more than happy with his contribution so far.

Don't really care, bale and Defoe can smash em in and VDV and Ade can stroke em in. Perfect.

He is so one footed its insane but I love that we have him at our club, played alright today but should of easily had a hattrick.

He seems to need 4 chances to score 1 goal. Fortunately he creates ALOT of opportunities for himself and others (Defoe's goal was thanks to a lovely bit of skill from Ade).

He is a really good player.

Today, I though he need just to whack the ball on a few occasions rather than trying to bend it in or something (only saw second half).

If he converted more of his chances I would be a very happy man indeed, but he doesn't. Other than not scoring enough of his chances, there is nothing wrong with him at all.

my point, jamturk, is that both the club and the fans always strive for improvement. this is not to be misread as an attack on adebayor or to be read as me calling him shit. i'm just saying it would be great if he hit a few a bit harder and bit more directly. his positioning and ability to fight for chances is good though.

i was about to say: but what about when he gets less chances vs teams like citeh and utd and chelsea... but then again we are actually such a solid team now that he will probably only get 6 chances instead of 8 per game... still should be good enough i guess.

i agree to some point ..for example the goal the he chose to curl far post and tries to beat the keeper..he could have drilled a low fast ball into the near post like all south american does..

He can be a bit too cute at times, but on the other hand I think Defoe can be the opposite and blast at times when he could be more controlled. They both have different styles and I think it's why they compliment eachother well at times.

His finishing has always been his biggest weakness, aside from the mental side, IMO. He offers us so much more though luckily.
