The argument is similar to that of Redknapp's demise. Finished 4th, which was excellent in isolation, but in reality he missed a fine opportunity to challenge for the PL title. Took his eye off the ball.

Adebayor scores a lot of goals, now and again, but also has spent a lot of time not scoring goals or doing a lot of alleged things off field.

Spurs fans love players and managers for their efforts, rather than their contributions. It's sort of understandable, because with both examples above people get annoyed about how we could be so much more if those capable of taking us forward put in a bit of effort consistently

Are you serious? We blew a chance to finish third, not first; Harry letting the thought of being England manager get into his head didn't help one bit, but there were other factors.

I appreciate he can be a total pain in the arse. He's got a long, long history of it, right from the start of his career. I seriously think he needs psychiatric help. We took a calculated risk in signing him and if you look at his record objectively it's paid off, with two good seasons and one crap one, plus this where he's been well below par again. He's actually lasted longer here than anywhere else except Arsenal, and been relatively well behaved, the spat with Villas-Boas aside—and it took two to tango there. We would have finished well down the table last season and in 2011-12 without his goals and assists. Any assertion to the contrary is bollocks.

We signed him, knowing what we were taking on, because he was the only striker remotely close to world class we had a chance of signing. We're not going to get the likes of Aguero and Costa and Llorente, however much people delude themselves that we could, if only Levy would throw £30m or whatever at their clubs and pay them £150k a week. We're hugely unlikely to sign anyone better this January, and if we're not careful could end up paying silly money for someone nowhere as good. I'm not happy with the situation, he needs to get his head together and his arse into gear ASAP (or someone needs to do it for him), but it would be crazy to get shot of him at this juncture. I'll take the pragmatic view in this, and I think Pochettino will as well.

The opportunity for a title challenge was all abut what the team could have grown to be. The form we were on meant that at the time Capello quit England, we were 7 points away from the top and 10 point clear of arse.

We finished the season 20 points off the top and 1 point behind arse, thanks to losing to such behemoths as QPR and Norwich.

If we'd have carried momentum and form forwards then we would have been in a good position to not only keep the likes of Modric and Bale at the club, but also cement a better reputation and financial future.

There's no 3rd place trophy, but a strong finish would have secured him his job and allowed us to reinforce one of our best squads into another season. Who knows what we would have achieved?

As for Adebayor, as much as I appreciate his ability, I think it's ridiculous to say we can't sign anyone better. I'd actually say we're highly unlikely to sign anyone as unreliable this January - there's plenty of talent around, but it all comes from trusting the people responsible in the club and not demanding ready-made superstars. We've made enough in the last few years.

You can get top class strikers who are unplayable on their day. Unfortunately, Ade is mostly unplayable in the opposite way.

Who said it was ridiculous?
IMO it would be extremely difficult to find someone better. He is a 1 in 2 guaranteed striker in the EPL.

my view on ade is that unlike quite a few, i don't actually dislike him, nor do i think hes a bad player. for me though it would feel like we're going "back" if he was reintroduced, i just want a clean break with poch and the players he sees us going forward with, so any who don't fit into that or haven't bought into it i'd rather not see them again.

?? I did.

If that were the case, he would have more than 2 league goals this season.

It's closer to say he was a 1 in 2 striker, but he current isn't in that 'mode'. For all we know, there could be a hundred different players out there capable of a goal a game, but we won't ever know until we have faith and find out.

he grew up in poverty, now he makes a fabulous amount of money, whether playing or on the bench and he lives in one of the best cities in the world, same for dembele, lennon etc..

why would any of these spoilt gits want to leave?

no wonder we can't get rid of em.
