AFC Tottenham

If we joined the Super League, would you consider switching allegiances to a new, fan-founded club?

In a scenario where we do indeed join the Super League as a founding member, and supporters created an AFC Wimbledon/F.C. United of Manchester type, supporter-owned club, would you consider switching your allegiances?

There is an extreme scenario where I’d consider this but an awful lot would have to happen. A lot of which was unthinkable days ago. 5% chance at the moment. More likely i chuck it all in and concentrate on something that brings me happiness for all my time and money.

I can see where your coming from and I hate the idea of the super league as much as the next person but unless the club up sticks and moved to another area I.e. Wimbledon I'd never support another team.

I think the point is they’re changing in every way other than geography. And the reasons behind it are not in the best interests of the fans. It’s bigger than a custodial issue now as they are attempting to rip us away from where we should be. To an extreme, they’re changing the sport. Yeah, there’s a team Jim, but not as we know it.

Nah. The only thing that could make me consider that would be the club moving to a completely different part of the country and changing its name.

Nah could not be bothered. I’m not really outraged over the super league thing. If I were to make a switch it would just be switch off. And when Harry Kane leaves, I might just not care anymore at all.

If Spurs were willing to shit on the entirety of English and European football: the history, the fans, the culture, the grassroots, the international game, every non-6 club, in order to chase a quick buck in a fucking boring circus league then yes, I would seriously consider looking elsewhere.

Nope, i've invested most of my life to Spurs, fuck starting all over again and if successful being part of the same shitty rat race.

I'll watch a lot more cricket, probably barmy army it in the winter and actually enjoy myself as well as seeing prostitutes in every test match cricketing playing country I go to.

So if the super league thing hadn't of happened are you saying this thread would have still been created? I don't think so, besides aren't most teams changing? I'm not totally against change, and in our society nowadays change happens much faster and if you can't adapt/change as a club/business/person you get left behind and like I said the form of the super league is an idea I'm no fan of but it's not enough for me to support another team even if we got relegated from the prem.

Disgusting behaviour.

No.

If they re-located the Club to Bejing or LA or something then potentially.

Otherwise the two options for me will be sticking with Spurs or gradually losing that tribal interest and just following football as an armchair fan.

Despite not liking the direction of the SL and the disillusionment from having Mourinho etc - I still struggle to see how I can switch that lifetime of passion off completely. I'm not sure it would ever leave however much I hate them in the moment.

We will have to see how this all plays out, but if they continue to go down this route then I don't think I could support Spurs in the same way. Whether that means a new 'local' club is too soon to say. As much as I like the idea of dropping all football and releasing myself from the emotional turmoil and investment, the idea of not spending time in Tottenham on a weekend and having the ups and downs of fandom in my life seems like an awful gaping void. Unthinkable a few days ago, but so was this whole horrifying charade as well.

The super league is a big leap away from our roots but we’ve been taking steps and leaps and jumps for years now. It was unthinkable that the Lane would be demolished years ago. Unthinkable that we’d release 3 or 4 new kits every season. Unthinkable that the cheaper season tickets would be nearly 4 figures. I could go on. Gradually the game is slipping away from the little guy who followed a club that needed him too. To detach a club from its history but reinventing it in a new structure may just be the step too far. You’re breaking a link.

Sums it up. If this breakaway sees us removed frim domestic football longterm and playing all over the world for the highest bidder then I'm out.

I think there's more legs in switching to a local non-league side like Haringey Borough, help them grow with the financial support available from disengaged supporters.

I think I would look at occasionally watching non league and my local side Havant & Waterlooville. Over lockdown I've only really watched Spurs matches on tv which as we know haven't really got the excitement levels up.

Not watching/following Spurs would be a big hole to fill but with the bigger picture of what it was meaning for the sport, football would go on the back burner and I would invest my energy and time elsewhere on the whole.

As others above, I would be more likely to stop following club football altogether and spend the time on other things (definitely not cricket though).
