That's amazing, I really hope Ajax manage to recover to the European superpower they once were, but economically things are against them even more than ever - and then we rock up and nick their best player 2 summers in a row.

I find it weird how you often hear European footballers talk of the unique English atmosphere - my Dutch mates talk of it and desperately want to come to see a Premiership game - and this happens on their doorstep at half the price!

I was watching the Bundesliga last weekend or the week before, can't remember which but Bremen 5-0 down at home to Dortmund and the support they were getting was unbelievable, the crowd never stopped roaring them on!

I optimistically thought we'd do something similar with Gareth Bale during the spanish winter break.

Would have been nice, and well deserved

Our fans have stopped booing at 5-0 and are half way down the A10.

I'm starting to watch more of the Bundesliga now than the Premiership primarily because the atmosphere is so good.

I watch a little bit of it too, atmosphere sounds great most games - shame Bayern are so, so good that there's no competition for the title this season - I went to the Allianz last year in their Fa Cup 3rd round equivalent against Kaiserslautern of the division below - 80,000 capacity, noise was incredible.

I got into watching it because it's probably more popular here (Ukraine) than the Premiership, honestly i wasn't that interested at first but then the atmosphere and the fact that the style is very attack minded got me watching.

Their stadiums are amazing as well!

Seen a bit of Schalke and their ground and atmosphere is just brilliant, i watch and i think why would a lad like Holtby want to leave there for Spurs and play in a morgue, can only be for the money.

The unique part of English crowds and supporters is the humour, the banter between the 2 sets of fans. It's obviously different to a constant noise of a Dortmund crowd for example, more of a back and forth between the 2 sets of fans. Both leagues are different, but both great in their own ways.

We wouldn't have done it even if his goals had won us the title- IMO he's a Spurs legend and to do nothing is pathetic- one could say the same about JD as well...

Great quote from De Boer there as well. Perhaps he's keen on managing Eriksen again in the near future. :sneaky:

Difference is, Ajax rely on the money they receive from transfers to survive, and therefore are happy to see the players go, and the fans accept that.

Hit the nail on the head there. If one of our best players leave we feel betrayed. Enter Modric, Berbatov, Carrick, even Bale. They accept it as reality.

If one of our lesser players leave it is more of a 'Id drive him to the airport myself' kind of attitude, as generally they're seen as deadwood and we want rid. Any past service is forgotten.

Its a shame. I thought Defoe would have got more of a send off from whl than he did.

Yep, I think Defoe may well have got a better send off, but the timing of the deal kinda restricted that. As for Bale, if we gave him a send off, we might as well roll over and admit to the World we are Real Madrids Bitch!

Average Bundesliga attendance is 42,000. There are 11 teams that average 40K+. Even Cologne in Div 2 average 45,000.

Been saying this for years, you cannot beat the atmosphere at German games. Top Italian games are great too, but the lesser ones can be ho hum.
