I know he's not on the shortlist, give it to him anyway. It's hard to say whilst he's still playing but in 10 years time he could be one of the true greats.

He already is mate.

Topping the most centuries scored by an Englishman ever elevates him to legend status now.

Not to mention being the youngest person to reach 7,000 test runs.

God knows what his century tally will be by the time he retires

It'd be great if he could get over 40.

What's more, he does this as an opener so bats off a new ball.

He will go down as Englands best ever and probably one of the worlds best. He's only 27 for crying out loud, he's got another 10 years left.

He doesn't get the credit that he truly deserves.

He will end up with a hell of a record.

He needs to up his profile, get pissed, take a slash in the queens garden, steal a pedalo etc...actually, scrap that, his cricket does the talking. Unlike the chap I'm referring to above, Cook is a genuine English cricketing legend and will end up simply a cricket legend.

I decided to drink through and watch our man's innings.

Is there a more attritional sport than batting through 3 Indian spinners in India? Actually I can answer that. 3 Pakistanis bowling spinners at you on a Pakistan wicket, except they never did. Two at most and 2 hair for leather fast toe crushing bowlers would be it. Only Sri Lanka would try this but only because they had a freak.

India for all their millions bore you to death. Slow turning wickets. The toss is all. Thats why this is amazing. Almost as amazing the 2005 Ashes.

India have made their cricket loving country hate test cricket because they want to not lose first and foremost.

Come on England! We whitewashed them at home lets take it to them and bore them into submission that THEY HAVE TO change their philosophy about test cricket.

The only cricket that really counts.

They won't though. In order for the BCCI to be ashamed or embarrassed by the state of Indian Test cricket that would require some form of humility. The BCCI only care about making money - they've even banned photo agencies like Getty Images so they can offer their own photo service to the press. As long as T20 and ODI cricket keeps making the BCCI vast sums of money they won't care what happens to Test cricket. In 2013 India are confirmed to play 3 Test matches*, none of which will be in India, and 32 T20 and ODI matches, whereas in 2011 they played 17 Test matches.

*They might be playing Australia in a two Test series but that hasn't been confirmed yet.
