Tottenham have hijacked Liverpool's move for Sevilla left back Alberto Moreno by tabling a £14million offer plus Roberto Soldado on loan for the defender.

Moreno is one of the hottest properties in Spain at the moment and has attracted interest among England's elite including Chelsea and Liverpool.

The Anfield club were thought to be leading the race to sign the exciting 21-year-old.

But new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to make Moreno his first summer signing and has given the green light to the lucrative offer.

Pochettino has made the capture of a new left back a top summer priority and will now go toe-to-toe with Brendan Rodgers to get his man.

Liverpool have offered £20million for the defender, but Sevilla value Moreno at £25million.

However the Reds are still favourites to land Moreno due to their participation in next season's Champions League.

It remains unclear what Sevilla's response to Spurs' offer has been, but the Spanish club will hope for a bidding war between Liverpool and Tottenham in the coming days.

Interestingly, Tottenham's decision to include Soldado as part of the deal raises serious question marks over the striker's future at White Hart Lane.

The forward arrived from Valencia last summer with the reputation of being a prolific goalscorer, but failed to live up to his billing as he struggled for goals in his first season.

And it now looks like he has been deemed surplus to requirements by Pochettino.

This lad has had a great season and is probably as highly rated in Spain as Shaw is in England-

Anguish: Roberto Soldado has been offered to Sevilla on loan as part of the deal having scored just two Premier League goals from open play in his first season at Tottenham

Why loan a 29 year old striker? Even if he has a fantastic season his value will drop. Doesn't make sense to me.

I get giddy at the thought of a quality left back ... Please let it be so (although I really want it to work out for Soldado here)

Make soldado part of the deal permanently to keep the fee down and it makes sense but not on loan

Would love him but i am sure he will end up at Liverpool as they have been chasing him a while now. I don't buy the Soldado loan exchange ether so doubt there is much to this story.

I don't see what we would get from loaning Soldado out...

I think we stand little chance of getting Moreno anyway.

I think loaning out soldado makes a lot of sense if Poch isn't a believer in his ability to adapt to the PL. Allow him to go back to a league where he was dominant and hopefully regain his form and value, while at the same time reducing the price of one of our targets.

How much is it realistically going to go up though? He will turn 30 at the end of the current campaign so his value will drop even more, and Spanish clubs aren't exactly swimming in cash currently.

This is why we shouldn't pay massive fees for players over 25. If it doesn't work out we're fucked. Decide to sell or keep but don't loan.

While I don't think there's any validity to this article, it would certainly be more advantageous to his value to send him back to La Liga on loan where he can regenerate some confidence and maybe add even a bit to his value. Would be a far better plan than dropping him to 3rd choice striker to sit on the bench if Poch doesn't rate him in the Prem in the first place.

To be fair, by all accounts AVB insisted on Soldado. So if we're to be of this claim, which is fair and this isn't aimed at you specifically, it's contradictory therefore to continue to blame Levy for not delivering the players the manager wants.

I don't think his value/stock will rise any higher though, whether we loan him out or not. Back home I'm sure it is still reasonably high. Also I doubt Spanish clubs will be able to afford all his wages so we would have to part fund it. We either decide to get some use out of him or sell him now in my opinion.
