When Ledley retires he will have served only one club in his career. And considering that for most of that career he has been playing at a far higher level than the club, we have been f'ing lucky to have him and for him not to leave us for Man U, Madrid or even Arsenal.

You can't expect loyalty in the modern game but when you get it you should realise how precious it is.

Personaly I'm grateful for every game he's played for us and if we carry him for 1 or 2 more seasons on a pay-as-you-play contract I'd be happy just to return some of the loyalty.

Except we won't be carrying him. Every time he plays he's still our best defender. If you still think we should sell him after considering all that then you open yourself up to questions about your own sense of loyalty...

FFS!!!

Everytime King is out injured we get this shit. The guy is our best players who was absolutley immense as we stormed to fourth place last season. He has put his body through the mill to play for us and soon as he is out for any period of time people wanna write him off?! I swear people don't think before they type on this forum.

You wait until he comes back and our defensive record immediately improves. How many of you will comeback on here and start licking his arse again??

For what it's worth I certainly don't think we should sell Ledley. We should make him an offer to become a coach if he wants or to be involved in the club in any way he wants when he stops playing.

But I do believe that a settled defensive lineup would massively benefit us and with Ledley coming in and out of the team we'll never get that. Last season he played enough games to justify it but I'm not sure he'll ever play that many games again.

The club owes him no end of gratitude and his loyalty should be repaid in keeping him as an ambassador for the club and more if he wants. But that loyalty isn't worth us destabilising the first XI and although that hasn't happened yet I think him coming in and out of the team would stunt the development of the likes of Kaboul, Bassong and Dawson.

just seen that daily mail article and it yet another disgraceful example of Ledley at his best. Has he not learnt from the previous 4 occasions where he is pictured like that. have a party have fun by all means but not to the extent that you have to be helped to your car. looking at the other players they clearly had fun on a night out and did not look like trash. i believe he should be stripped of his captaincy of the team. disappointed in the guy.

Not whilst he is pictured wasted like he was at that party and a few others shown in the last few years. I see another Gascoigne here. Was Mabbut ever pictured wasted in that way, i doubt it and he is an excellent ambassador of our club.

i've read this forum for long time now, and i've seen enough of bashing for Bentley, Keane Zokora, Jenas, and even Harry Redknapp, and i can remember someone started a thread and was glad to meet King, and compared him to Terry, so everyone including myself agreed that we must be proud without captain as he is 'lead-by-example' .. and showed commitment for us.

well, what now after this ?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbi...lped-home-enjoying-teams-Christmas-party.html

the man getting paid for this ? is it for the first time ? simply no.
if he loves us, well, pay cut or pay as your play deal, and we must find long term replacement, not someone backup like Bassong, who isn't half King quality.

be honest, and show some fainess ..

and for me, King isn't going to be good enough for us, we are losing stability with him, we are losing subs for CB sometimes for him, we are losing awful money for someone couldn't be fit for many months in year for long time ..

clubs like Wigan, Fulham, Sunderland, West Ham, Blackburn wouldn't mind getting him for cheap £3-5m as they don't play in Eroupe.
You're blowing those pictures way out of proportion. He's a little bit drunk and tired. Big fucking deal.

Look, if Ledley King had a bad attitude towards training, turned up late and played shit then maybe, just maybe, him going out and getting pissed once in a while could be brought into question. He doesn't though. He's doing his job for Spurs, and queite frankly what he does on his own time is his own business (provided it isn't anything illegal). As long as his personal life doesn't affect what he does on the pitch there really isn't a problem.

Did Liverpool get rid of Gerrard for punching up someone in a bar? Did Chelsea get rid of Terry for sleeping with a team mates wife? Or Ashley Cole for sleeping around? Did Man Utd get rid of Ferdinand for failing a drugs test? Or even stop Gerrard, Terry or Ferdinand from wearing a captains armband (not to mention England aswell) All these guys get worse press than Ledley King.

Yet we're supposed to strip King of his captains armband and get rid of him because he gets drunk when he's out injured (which is probably his way of dealing with the agony of always getting injured). Sorry, but that's ridiculous. He has never brought any shame to this football club, unlike many other England internationals who have been up to far worse.

Amen.

To add to this people on here are making judgements from a few pictures that appeared in the Daily Fail! There would have been paps waiting to get any kind of picture that looked as if Ledley was wasted even if he wasn't. They might have taken 1000 pictures but only used three that were the most incriminating.

Get a grip people.

Ledley King will retire in a Spurs shirt and will be moved to the back room coaching staff, in line to be a potential manager of the club but before that there's plenty of football yet to come from him the mans so determined.

Probably time to get rid of Keane (if we get the appropriate amount - £6+ million), Bentley (Loan or £5+ million) and Giovanni.

That would open up the opportunity to add O'Hara and Woodgate to our 25 man squad I believe, with 1 place to spare???

I think we should give Jamie O'Hara another chance, but instead of playing him in midfield, play him at left-back. IMO, Assou-Ekotto is the weakest player in our first choice starting 11, O'Hara could do a job at LB if given a chance.

Woodgate is a top defender, we all know the only weakness he has is his fitness.

If we can go out and get a quality centre forward, great. But if not, we shouldn't go out and buy just for the sake of it

O'Hara better than BAE at left back? What absolute rot.

With all respect to the guy (who I admire hugely), I don't think King is managerial material at all. You can't 'lead by example' when you are a manager, you have to be a specialist leader (strategic vision, communicator etc). I don't think he's got the personality, brains or will to go into management.

Ledley, when he plays, is still our best defender. He has also lost a little something, understandably. That's not to say he's not a great defender anymore, but there's a certain confidence about his use of the ball which is becoming rarer and rarer. The perfect tackle from behind is not followed by a hoof into touch rather than bringing the ball out of defence. That said, he's still immense when he plays and I wish he were always fit.

That's the point though. He isn't always fit. He's rarely fit in fact. The lack of training has become an increasingly bigger issue because he's picking up more non-knee injuries now than ever before. For this reason, I don't think he should walk into the side anymore. We have Kaboul, who I reckon will be one of the top centre backs anywhere, we have Dawson, who is our rock, we have Gallas, who is not as good as King but at least offers experience to the same, and in fact a greater extent, and we have Bassong, who is talented though perhaps uneasy at times still. Then there's Khumalo coming in, and who knows, Woodgate might even stay fit once he gets fit.

I love Ledley, and I'd have him on the bench every single time, but his albeit immense ability no longer justifies a first team place when you consider his unreliability on the injury front, and that's a compliment to the quality of our other centre backs more than anything else.

Well said, tough but fair, I honestly agree though. Having said that I'd put my last dollar on him being a phenomenal defensive coach. As I understand it he hardly trains midweek so he's effectively synchronising himself with the team by watching training sessions - anyone who can do that at this level is an absolute marvel. We're blessed to have him and we'd be blessed to keep him after his playing career ends.

when ledley plays, we play much better, we are much tighter and we are more confident. so, having him on the bench would be a non-starter for me. It would be worth it, in every game he can play, to start with him, because he is that much better than all our other defenders. I would be far happier going into, for example, Man City, Arse, Man U, Chelsea, AC Milan with King playing than not, and that will continue as long as he is still able to play and is still better than the others.

Nice idea, but your prices are insane...

you have to remember that a transfer value isn't dictated by the fans. Therefor you have to put on your old trust realistic hat.

O'hara = 3m
Palacios = 8m
Bentley = 7m
Kranjcar = 6m
Pav = 9m
