I thought he was on 15k currently.

I would have thought a 35k deal, considering he is first team, would have been more appropriate.

“This club always pay their players a good salary. It is step by step. We need to stay calm but if you deserve a new contract, the club will give it to you.”

....and I might add, lock you into terms that are almost impossible to navigate out of, when Real Madrid come knocking.......

It's a hard thing to balence not over paying them to young yet still retaining them, oh 20 k a week that's gone out the window.

20 k seems peanuts then I remember most 19 yrs olds are lucky to be in 20k a year, and he earns over 80 k a month. He will also get bonuses.

Still, he might wonder how much someone else would offer him now, 19 or not ...

It should all be performance related now.
Wages based on games goals distance etc etc etc. Readily available data to the club.

Give them a basic salary and the rest is made up from that.

Ideally it'd motivate players to work harder for their salary and makes sure no one is getting paid a bucket load of cash to do nothing.

No doubt this will then get improved further this time next year if he continues to develop the way he is.
Don't want to give him £50k a week after half a good season then risk him thinking that's it, he's made it and his development suffers.

i agree £50k per week would be stretch to far, but there is something about this kid, it just seem like he loves the game and love being played.

Get the feeling the money won't change his desire to play his best.

Parity is important. So long as he is getting what he something on par with his peers at the club then all should be good.

I'd normally feel this was a bit early but he must have performed way above what anyone expected when we signed him. If he is in line for another pay increase by the summer he will have had a special year!

In football terms it seems a bit low and will not fend off bids from the big boys.

Totally agree, but then there is always some stupidly cash rich club sniffing around like City who could pay way over the odds and turn the players head.

Personally, I think it's about time there was a UEFA-wide wage cap.

At this age he needs to stay hungry. A wage increase plus uplifted bonuses that kick in on performance seems a good way forward. That way you can make sure he earns top wages if he does well, keeping the onus on him to improve

At first read 20,000 pounds a week for the burgeoning talent that is Alli doesn't seem a lot in today's market. However when you consider that he's only 19 it's fantastic money and I'm sure his new contract is set up in such a way that our bean counter will continue to increase the amount based on performance etc. while keeping the plastics away.

Good luck to the kid, he deserves it!
Said before the season started that if he got his chance others would struggle to take his place - I love being right! ( but don't tell the Mrs ;)).

I think he is currently a 30-35 k a week player at least the way he is playing, let's be honest we paid Capoue, Paulinho, Holtby, more but it's so easy to see why kids loose focus so much so young. To many fast woman slow horse and good times.

Wage cap would be better for football equality and competetiveness than FFP IMO.

You only need to look how many teams in England alone won titles before the wage cap that all but disappeared after.

Wage caps will never happen unfortunately but I wondered if it would be possible to implement a club total wage cap.
So you can pay your star man 250k a week if you want, but you'll only have a squad of 8 17yr old trainees lol.
