New Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is ready to head-to-head with Atletico Madrid for the £20m-rated Manchester City hitman.

Pochettino wants to shake-up his strike force for next season.

Negredo hit 23 goals during his debut campaign for City but missed out on Spain's World Cup squad after making just 21 league starts.

Freshening up his frontline with a top quality addition is one of Pochettino's main priorities this summer.

Of his two senior strikers, he is understood to have concerns about Emmanuel Adebayor's consistency and wants to run the rule over Roberto Soldado before making a decision on his future.

Pochettino is also a fan of youngster Harry Kane but has been busy making defensive changes too.

He is closing in on £8m Swansea left-back Ben Davies and ready to let centre-half Michael Dawson leave.

Hull are leading the chase to sign Dawson ahead of newly-promoted QPR

He was crap at City for most of the season.

First half Brilliant. Second half Rasiak.

Edit- Obviously I am not actually comparing his quality to Rasiak seriously, just highlighting his form was very poor in the latter part of the season....

Sounds like bullshit, but would be typical of us to try and buy the player we should have bought 3 years ago for more money than it would have taken to get him then.

Negredo is an exceptionally good player, strong but with very good technique. Would be a great addition and who knows what City might be thinking striker wise, but if they do sell I imagine his wages would be an issue for Levy. Not sure what he's earning but imagine it's above our pay levels
We should have bought him years back when we had a chance but Harry preferred Crouchy:wtf:

I know what you mean but please dont compare Negredo to Rasiak :)

You know I was being slightly sensationalist, but the point of the post was to highlight that his form dropped off massively.

I love the way every single player we missed out on has become Harry's fault . Levy really has hypnotized the masses.

First half of season a beast and the 2nd half of the season badly interrupted by injury.

Would be a great signing. Not a chance of it happening through.

We were in talks with Negredo but Harry opted for Crouchy, that was reported in most of the papers at the time, equally Harry admitted himself that we could have signed Rossi just after our pre season friendly but he turned down the chance and also admitted that he was advised Suarez was not capable of playing a main striker role so turned down the opportunity

I like Harry, think he did a great job for us but I wish he had been a better judge of strikers. I'm sure Levy failed Harry over a number of players and has done similar to other managers but for all the positives Harry was very conservative in his striker choices

Yeah I agree with that, Harry made some bad choices but we were heavily linked again with Negredo a couple of years after that iirc, but were too busy pissing about with Leandro. Anyway, ancient history now.

Harry bought premier league proven strikers.
Defoe, Keane, Crouch, Adebeyor. They all scored fairly consistently for him.

JD 2, 18,4,11 average 10 goals a season in 3 1/2 years
Keano 5, 6, 0 average 4 goals a season in 2 1/2 years
Crouchino 8,4,0 average 4 goals a season in 3 years
Ade 17 under Harry in one season, but the 5 the next season

It's hardly a great record of buying top strikers. In his favour he arrived at a difficult point, bottom of the table and couldn't take a risk on a non PL experienced striker needing time to settle so JD with both lots of PL experience and club experience was a safe buy. Then injured after a couple of games I can understand his logic in getting Keano, even though I didn't want him back
For me though having signed JD and Keano he could have been a bit more inventive in his targets than Crouchy who was never a prolific goalscorer. Of course we don't know how difficult it was for him to convince Levy on targets but with both Crouch and Keano failing so badly and only getting Ade later on loan left us weak in attack for a couple of seasons when having one extra quality striker could have made the difference in getting CL again
