JD 2, 18,4,11 average 10 goals a season in 3 1/2 years
Keano 5, 6, 0 average 4 goals a season in 2 1/2 years
Crouchino 8,4,0 average 4 goals a season in 3 years
Ade 17 under Harry in one season, but the 5 the next season

It's hardly a great record of buying top strikers. In his favour he arrived at a difficult point, bottom of the table and couldn't take a risk on a non PL experienced striker needing time to settle so JD with both lots of PL experience and club experience was a safe buy. Then injured after a couple of games I can understand his logic in getting Keano, even though I didn't want him back
For me though having signed JD and Keano he could have been a bit more inventive in his targets than Crouchy who was never a prolific goalscorer. Of course we don't know how difficult it was for him to convince Levy on targets but with both Crouch and Keano failing so badly and only getting Ade later on loan left us weak in attack for a couple of seasons when having one extra quality striker could have made the difference in getting CL again

and we chose Crouch over the similarly-priced Huntelaar at the time, he'd have been racking up the goals when we had Bale, VDV, and Modric.
