Am I the only one who doesn't mind a change?

Don't get me wrong I loved Berbatov, Keane and Malbranque last year in their full swing, beautiful to watch and proud to watch, but have we all ready bought their replacements......

Berbatov again last year had a terrible start of the season, be nice to have a striker who plays at full speed for a full season, his ability is irreplaceable, but we didn't do too bad without him in Jols first full season.

Keane and Malbranque for me are clever players who would be absolute world beaters if they had some pace.

I think Modric will be a fine replacement for Malbranque as he has all the brains plus pace, plus more! hence why people brand him already as world class, which Malbranque has never been labeled.

Giovani while still young I think has enough quality to replace Keanes link-up play, he won't work as hard off the ball, but he has got great potential for the counter attack with his pace and skills. Mooted by Ronaldinho and Henry as world class in the making, something Keane rarely has been called.

Finally, Bent was bought for a lot of money, but what he has in the locker is enough to warrant it: goal scoring pedigree, powerful pace, aerial ability.

Keane Berbatov Malbranque or Giovani Bent Modric yep I would still opt for the experience of the former, but if they go I'm def not complaining if the money spent is spent on some decent CMs as the latter looks fresher, faster and the ability to open defenders right up, even better if we get a fully fit, raring to go Lennon too!

For all Keane, Berbs and Steeds magnificent football, they have, at times been guilty of horrendous squander in front of goal.

Though I'll be sad to see any of them go, it will be kinda exciting to see what some new (Ramos approved) players can do.

No, you're not the only one. i have to admit that fridays breaking story which suggests that both Berbatov and Keane will be sold, still didn't dampen my optimism for this season. I honestly think the sale of those two will help us build a stronger squad, along with the sale of Malbranque, Tainio, Kaboul and Chimbonda, with a few more to follow.

With Modric and Giovani, we've already gone a long way to replacing what Berbatov and Keane produced. Now what we need is the goals. I'd love for us to sign 2 top quality replacements like Arshavin and Villa. But i think we'll pull off one top quality striker with one very good one.

The potential (and what looks likely) signings of Capel and Bentley will also bring a lot to the table. I think it will lead to a formation change with one lone striker and that will benefit the quality midfield we're creating. I'm hoping for....

.............................Gomes........................
Hutton.........Woodgate.......King..........Bale
....................Modric.........Albelda..............
Bentley..................Giovani................Capel
...............................Villa..........................

Viviano, Guntar, Dawson, Diaz, Ekotto, Gilberto, Lennon, Jenas, Zokora, Huddlestone, O'Hara, Taarabt, Kuyt, Bent.

There are others I'd get rid of before Steed. I don't think our squad is sufficiently strong to willingly sell one of our best players last season. For me, Steed is a perfect squad player for us (as is Tainio imo). Good quality, good versatility and good rapport with the fans. We should of course add more quality to the squad but not at the expense of weakening our second string.

I don't think it is a great idea to sell Malbs or Tanio. They are good squad players who can definitely do a job for us if and when the injuries come. I would prefer to have those two than other players from abroad who lack premiership experience.

Steed, Chimbonda, TT, Rocha, Gardner, KPB, Kaboul, Keane, Berba, Robbo, LYP...if all those go as rumoured than that's a massive change.

I think the rest of this month is going to be one big revolving door at the Lane & I'm guessing we must have a few deals for some of our incoming players already sorted.

Replacing what was arguably the best partnership in the league last season is not easy, and maybe even impossible. We are one world class CM away from a top four team and the last thing we need is a change up front. Typical Spurs - losing key players just when things are really looking up:cry:

Lets be honest here for all his ability Berbatov put the effort in whenever it suited him - if he performed in every game the way he played against Bolton when we were down to 10 men,he would be irreplaceable but he did'nt.
Therefore he was never a SPURS TEAM player because he did'nt give 100% in every game and that has a negative effect on young players - gives them the impression that they can play whenever they want to!
Keane scored a lot of goals but in his overall play he jumped out of tackles and headers constantly, ran about a lot but with no real passion or intent.
Therefore he was never a SPURS TEAM player because again he did'nt give 100% of himself and that has a negative effect on young players - gives them the impression they can play for us without aggression or passion!
Ramos warned all the players last year that they were playing for their futures - if they did not believe him then, they certainly do now!
Our future is in the hands of Ramos and he will certainly not tolerate any player that does'nt give 100% or the team!
THE TEAM IS EVERYTHING!

You move on. After many seasons of support you learn not to be too attached to any one or two players. I support Tottenham Hotspur, not Keane & Berbatov Hotspur.

the worrying thing is we wouldn't necessarily have to replace keane and berbatov, as bent is proven to play most effectively as a lone frontman. obviously the fans would like them to replaced with top class players but the management may not deem this necessary with possible new formation to be used this season, and the likelyhood of dos santos being used as a number ten.

obv i want berba to stay or go abroad, but if manure gave us 20 mil + carrick that would be a good deal for us,

and in the light of liverpool not being able to afford barry because of their pursuit of keane, doing a deal with villa for barry in a straight swap for jenas would also be useful for us.. barry may not have the legs of jenas, but is a little more tenacious, something we need .

imagine that , a midfield options list of barry, carrick, modric, gio, lennon, zokora, tainio, bale, o'hara... nice eh!

obv hoping kaboul, malbranque stay but its not looking likely if we get the right offers :(

That is a deal that will never happen unfortunately. I think 75% of people reading this forum would be pretty damned happy with that!

It's worth an ask I suppose.

lets be realistic...20mil + carrick??? what makes you think that even if united were to sanction the deal that carrick would want to return?

its not fucking fm...you have to appeal to the players themselves to entice them to come.

ffs

The others (Keane, Malbranque & Co.) can easily be replaced.

Yet with 4 weeks to go, it seems that we haven't found replacements yet. Not so easy as people think.

"We'll just buy so-and-so". Yep, it's that easy after all. :-?

Unfortunately Carrick would be one of the last players that would be offered in exchange. He is quite clearly very highly rated by the powers that be at Man U. And rightly so I might add.

Id still like to keep steed unless a replacement is already lined up? I don't think Santos is enough reason to get rid of one of our most consistent players last year. A player who does a decent job on either flank, and scores on a fairly regular basis.

Id also still like Kaboul to be persevered with. Who knows maybe he will be our dm?

Whether we like change or not is irrelevant.

In the climate of modern football, few players stay in one place for very long so it's inevitable that we will continue to see new players coming in while others go, which means a continually shifting team-building exercise.

You just have to hope for the right mix of players and team spirit binding a team together - and that can be a hit and miss procedure.

Much as we may not want to see players like Keane and Berbatov going, their discontent at being held back can only be detrimental to Ramos's plans for the future. We have some superb, enthusiastic youngsters coming through and blending them with more experienced players we can look forward to some exciting and successful football in the seasons to come.
