Just looking through a few sites when i wombled across this gem:

http://www.spurshistory.com/

"A Romance of Football"

Reprinted from the 1921 edition of the Tottenham & Edmonton Weekly Herald, it's a really interesting read

note: Try imagining it read by Mr Chumbley-Warner, it's brilliant

it also details that Hotspur FC were born on 5th September, 1882, which makes the club a Virgo

Interestingly on page 24, we're referred to as the Tottenham 'Reds' ;-)

(yes I am aware we once had a red kit)

One amazing thing that I never realised was that Spurs played many of their early games at London Fields....where I lived for over 20 years. Many of the sides they played seemed have been named after Roads and Pubs aorund by London Fileds.....Malvern, Malborough, Brownlow, Albion and Clifton

Hi Steve

I was mugged in the middle of London Fields around the mid-seventies I was on my way home from work - I was a bus-conductor working out of Dalston Garage (Ash Grove) and two black fellahs jumped me, but I only had about
76p on me 'cos it was a Thursday night and wasn't getting paid until the morning. Myself a few of my mates caught up with them about a week later, they might have change their hunting ground after that little episode.

Rossi's used to store their ice-creams vans in a compound near the railway arches, we used to climb over the wall and nick their cones - no ice cream - just cones - how mad is that ?

I do recall seeing Ted Ditchburn play but not Ron Reynolds.

Those contact lenses would have been the hard type back then, so quite uncomfortable to wear.

Would love to find any resource on the other sporting clubs affiliated to the Tottenham Hotspur name (especially their basebal team)

The owner of the http://www.spurshistory.com/ site, Nick Adams, is an extremely nice guy. I was staying in Malaysia in 2004, and when I contacted him to arrange for alternative payment method since I don't use paypal, he sent a copy of the CD to me FOC.
