Great player, I just don't see where he'd fit into our team, unless we change from the current formation that Tim has been using.

And cannot see him wanting to leave Juventus or Italy at his age either

Still a brilliant player though and would bring experience, calmness and knowledge to the club

I'm not convinced he has the legs to cope over here tho.. I think we'd have to build a system around him.. Which is kinda pointless, given that he won't be at the club long.. Would make more sense if we still had THudd, cos he could learn the role..

Not sure about this though I know we have in the past brought in the odd world class player at the end of their careers who have made a difference, at least in the dressing room

Bumping this thread after reading the article below.

Think regardless of age, his experience, professional mentality, and winning pedigree means that if we have a chance to get him, we should go for it even though we are overstocked in CM. He will bring on all our young players including Eriksen and Holtby in leaps and bounds.

He can be the role model/ outfield leader that our team lacks ever since King retired and I believe that is also a big reason for the poor attitudes we saw in some of our key players towards the end of last season.

Bring him in a second. He is a meistro and will overtake Gerrard as best old outfield player. The way he has adapted over the years amazes me and his vision is as beautiful as ever.

Sitting next to Sandro/Capoue would be a beautiful thing. He could also be that role model you speak of for Holtby, who I envision playing that role of the connection from the back to the attack.

As much as I'd love this to be true, I just can't see it. Didn't be recently sign a new 2 year deal?

I know contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on but surely levy wouldn't sanction a fee for a 35 year old (would be worth a couple of years service for £5m IMO)

I'd be over the moon if he were to join but can't see it unfortunately

Agree that it will be on the unlikely side but if he does agitate for a move with Allegri in then there is a chance for it to be low enough in fees to make sense.

All in the name of hope anyway but amidst the obvious slant towards youth in all our transfers, I feel that an experienced/mature/commanding head is what we lack in the team.

Love him to death but buying an old vet goes against both Poch's system and all of Levy's recent transfer business, don't see it happening.

Would be an amazing signing in so many ways but I cant see it happening, unfortunately.

And for added measure, let me tag @beats1 in here just so he can shoot me down again for suggesting we have a chance

with Conte resigning and Allegri appointed Pirlo will not be happy, Allegri was responsible for Pirlo leaving AC Milan. Now whether SPurs want him is another matter but to ignore a football genius still at his prime at 35 would be madness, the fact that Ancelotti is interested says it all.Fit a team around him for two years and see where he will take us. His footballing brain is way ahead of anyone in the PL or anyone in football for that matter he is that good!!

it's embarrassing to even contemplate Pirlo dropping back to the Europa, or coming to us for that matter.....Talk about detached from reality.
