For those, like me, that Shaw and Martial was viable, does anyone know why shaw didn't play at the weekend, didn't even make the bench. I've just seen that they are trying to sign Aurier, and don't they use Darmian at LB from time to time, so is Shaw injured or just out of favour? If he's that far out of favour, and Martial isn't a first choice starter, thus could be doable.

I think I read somewhere earlier today that, along with Valencia, he is injured but nearing a comeback. Will try and find a link.

The game changer here will be how arrogant Mourinho is. If he sees us a genuine contender, will he be reluctant to strengthen us, or will he feel we are insignificant and his team is too good.
Equally, it may be that he wants to keep Martial so he has better backup than others, but would Martial push for a move?

He's not going to strengthen us. It just won't happen.

Have we had any ITK on Martial?

Yep.

We had a guy meet an agent in a hotel, the agent told him that Spurs were going to make a move for a big French player, the agent didn't expand on whether it was national player or a foreign player in the French league.

This was before news of the Martial bid broke.

Firstly Utd don't need to sell.
And they will know they are better off with quality on their bench that can come on and get goals at any time.
And and ... they'd Much rather have him sitting there than them playing for a top four rival.
Pie in the sky, as awesome as it would be to sign him.

But, hutchinho, you're forgetting that he does want Rose. So, he could swap Shaw (whom he doesn't like & who's contract is running down) & Martial (a bench warmer) for the best LB in the Premier. Meanwhile, we replace an unhappy Rose with Shaw, who worked great with Poch previously and Martial who is unhappy & wants to go elsewhere.
Not saying it would ever happen, but it's interesting that all parties would benefit

not going to happen and another player who should have been braver when his big money move happened instead of taking the $ at a nouveau rich club....other egs include Batshituya, Shaw

There's absolutely no way this is going to happen. I'm sure Daniel's enjoying spreading this rumour to the press but there are so many reasons it won't happen that it's not even worth thinking about.

I'd question the nouveau rich part 're man utd but otherwise spot on. You'll probably be able to add sterling to that list by the end of the season imho.

A sublime signing, but I seriously doubt that Mourinho would ever sell Martial to a title chaser..

Sadly I have to reluctantly agree but as a Spurs supporter isn't it fantastic that we can now naturally and confidently consider ourselves as that.... 'a title chaser'...and the very fact that we are regarded to be major contenders by the so called 'top teams' is music to my ears. As someone associated with this wonderful club since the early sixties may I just say "It's great to be back !".......(y)(y)(y)(y)

this is a very interesting scenario and one that has a chance, albeit slim, of coming true. In a way, it depends on how much confidence Maureen has in his own abilities. That deal, with Danny Rose at left back, gives him the best squad in the league and when he was the special one, he would have got that squad over the finish line. But does he back himself or is he worried that maybe Shaw and Martial step up under Poch and we beat them to the finish line.

Similarly, do we do the deal recognizing that while we are better off, Utd are probably, once Danny is fit, probably the team to beat.

My 2 cents Poch backs himself and Maureen pulls the plug and wimps out.

fair point Jody and the reason I applied that to Utd today is that they are acting differently to any time in their history. They have so much money coming in they are just chucking it around almost compensating for their decline post Fergie....such a waste over recent years.
