Gards on passing on Martial because of HG quota:
"Absolute nonsense. We have been trying for him for a while, if they offered then we would take "

I can't believe I'm saying this but I actually hope Toby is their #1 choice, IF Martial is included

SSN BREAKING NEWS...

Man Utd are set to make another bid for Harry Maguire before Thursday. He is Jose's number one choice. If they fail, they will turn their attention to Alderweireld or Mina.

Thought I'd put this here what with the latest Toby to Utd in next 48 hours and potential swap with Martial info/gossip.
If Utd end up buying someone else then great, we keep Toby and I imagine he’ll want to play and do whatever it takes to make nice with Pochettino. Or, if Utd leave it till last minute, we have them over a barrel and demand Martial.

The problem we have is that Levy knows he’s fucked after Thursday with anyone he wants to shift as the foreign teams will have all the bargaining power knowing the players who aren’t registered.

That being said, I can’t see us passing up a player of Martial’s quality even if it means losing a few million quid on selling abroad after our window is shut.

I think you're right. Reckon there will be a few more twists and turns still to play out regarding this saga involving Alderweireld and Martial.

Charlie Adam said on talksport the other day that footballers are entitled to paternity leave but don’t take it most of the time
They are employees, of course they're entitled to it.

Not great, because Toby doesn't want to be here and Poch doesn't want him here. That we might be able to get Martial in return in such a situation is the best possible outcome.

United know they aren’t getting Maguire this window. I’m convinced all this is tactical. Alderweireld is the only CB they know they can get this window. I’m also convinced that if we hold out they will give us Martial for him. On deadline day if Mourinho doesn’t have his CB then they will give in. We need to be strong on this one.

They're contractors, they are not entitled to it. It's at the employers descretion
Nope, they are employees under IR35 and would be entitled to all the benefits that entails.

Personally, I think he's been rather good with the family planning by arranging the birth during the off-season in a world cup year (no doubt under the assumption he'd be playing)! Would they rather he had the birth during the world cup or during the league campaign?

No offence but I'm an employment lawyer and have dealt with such contracts. Some are contractors but the vast majority are employees on fixed term contracts.
If they were employees wouldn't criticism of their performance in the press by the management be grounds for constructive dismissal?

If we do the swap for Martial, get Grealish for ~20m and get someone like Brozovic for 40m, that would be under 50m net spend depending on outgoings (even loan fees would take it under) and I think would be a great transfer window
