Gave a penalty for this.

Did nothing about this.

And didn't give Kane a blatant penalty. All in the same match.

OK, I think we have to accept the following [NSFW] ...

You lot would find a reason to moan about whoever was appointed ref.

We'll still do them.

Perhaps, but quite a few of us would've been content with Phil Dowd.

It's not the ref so much as those cheating chavs.

I haven't noticed Anthony Taylor being either especially brilliant or especially rubbish this season, mainly because I don't tend to pay all that much attention to individual referees in general: they're usually just the generic bastard-in-the-black / lifesaver-with-a-whistle through my eyes when I'm watching games. Therefore I don't have an opinion one way or the other about him refereeing the final, because I haven't paid him enough attention to do so.

Having said all that, if that article in the OP is flagging up the Stambouli penalty incident at Palace in particular, I personally wouldn't give any ref a hard time at all for giving that, especially in real time without the benefit of slow motion replays. The fault in that particular case was FAR more Stambouli's brainfart than it was a refereeing error, regardless of whether or not Stambouli got the tiniest sliver of the ball. If the same thing had happened in the other box I would have been baying for a penalty, and I bet that most of SpursCommunity would have been doing exactly the same.
I agree. Way too much is being made out of this. Phil Dowd is getting a lot of love on here- I reckon that's more down to the fact that he was the ref when we beat them 5-3, not because he's amazing.

People naming Dowd is obviously crazy stuff. I only trust Michael Oliver and Clattenburg when it comes to English refs.

For me, it is simply because he won't be walking around Wembley holding onto the 'turned inside-out' pocket of Mourinho, and he'll keep some discipline on the pitch. You know damn well that the chavs will cheat / intimidate their way to the trophy if they cannot dominate the game.

I think for his own careers sake he will want to officiate in the best possibly manner, and make objective decisions. He may make a mistake which will impact the game, but I doubt he goes out there deliberately wanting to give them key decisions.

But he's weak and easily swayed by pressure which he will certainly get from Mourinho, Terry etc.

Lets hope he wants to see a win for football - which would be a Spurs win.
Walker, Dier, Mason & Kane need to go out and sweeten him up. Our English core talking to him throughout the game compared to Chelseas foreign fleet moaning about all sorts in his face might swing it our way.
