Antonio Conte has defended his tactics ahead of Tottenham's clash at Manchester City tonight, insisting his formation is the best fit for his squad. In 64 matches in charge of Spurs, Conte has only once deviated from his preferred system of having three centre-backs supported by wing-backs.

Pairing Romero and Lenglet leaves us weak in the air, but Dier and Lenglet is too slow as a pair and Romero is wasted as a right back.

I'm surprised we good enough for anything other than 9-0-1. You can't experiment a formation for 90 or 45 minutes and say nope. The current system has left us sitting way too deep. The defenders aren't good enough to contain and the WBs aren't good enough to break but we continue to play counter attack. Makes no sense.

Logic surely dictates that we play with the ball instead if we can't defend.

This is predicated on the players being good on the ball too, which most of them aren't or are very average on it.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

Perhaps he'd be more open to doing that if he had a better attacking RWB.

Perhaps he would. Central midfield has more holes in it than a bit of Swiss cheese at the moment though and an attacking RWB won't make any difference to that.

He did that against man utd and Liverpool and we got overrun in midfield.

How many times have we been overrrun in midfield with 2 in there? Answers on a postcard. When he did play 3 in CM, for some bizarre reason he had Bissouma at 6 (when he's an 8) and Skipp out on the right wing. That isn't exactly playing to their strengths.

but son in particular and kane cough the ball up. Hojbjerg can play very poor passes.
We cant cross the ball with the exception of perisic and are inert in possession. Oh and we cant press cos of kane.
deep counter attack is exactly how we should have setup against arse, but instead we handed them 6 points and probably the title.

Removing the two wingers would put even more onus on the wingbacks to attack. Without adequate width, we'd be far too easy to 'park the bus' against.

We conceded 28 shots on goal against man u, that's never happened with a 2 in midfield. Its was also bissouma, Bentancur and hojbjberg in both games against Liverpool and man utd

last week the club to blame, this week the players - next week?
and I was a conte supporter but this narrative is getting tedious now we all including levy knows how this ends

Royal is a much better fullback than wingback, Davies can play left back comfortably and it hides his lack of pace, Dier has played in a two as can Romero who just won the world cup playing in that shape. Makes no sense...
