That's a few times now in the last windows where we've been quoted a price and just told the other club to fuck off and moved our interest elsewhere. A marked change for me instead of clinging on to deals for weeks that don't get done in the end anyway. More than happy to see us walking away from scenarios like this one where we otherwise just get messed about. Hopefully it goes some way toward putting clubs on notice that when we come in, we are serious, and are not the club to lead down the garden path anymore.

If they offered a sell on fee I'm not surprised Brugge went for it as I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have done that.
Yeah, no way we pay that much money and include a sell in percentage, that's taking the piss a bit.
I don't recall us ever agreeing to things like release clauses and sell ons.

I’ve seen Mikey Moore play for academy teams and he is an extraordinary talent. Signing a player just 2 years older than him that plays in his position would have been discouraging for him. So I’m not fussed that we’ve missed out on Nusa. There will be other opportunities.
Does he look better than Marcus Edwards did at that age? I was convinced he'd make it with us. Still scoring 1 in 4 in Lisbon though.

You win some and lose some. We won with Dragusin and lost with Nusa. Out of the 2 I know which win I prefer more.

Same old same old. To dare is too dear
Same old same old...people regurgitating the same tripe at every half chance.

We arguably had a better window that most expected at the start but because we refuse to get bent over on an opportunistic punt, some cannot wait to dive in.

I’m kind of surprised they have that sort of money to spend on an 18 year old that won’t join until next season considering they aren’t looking too hot this season but I guess they are banking on him doubling his value. Ether way I’m very curious to see how he does.

We simply have to get it right with Mikey Moore, he's way too talented

Much better. He’s as if not more skilful, has a much better physique and seems to have his head on right.

wonder if more to it than meets the eye ....who are they selling...is toney off?
Led to believe he'll be on but most likely in the summer unless someone comes in for him late and for a lot of money.
Either way if he helps them stay in the league it'll be money we'll spent.

I think Brentford are at a level where their only hope of getting a player like Nusa would be when other clubs aren't financially able to. More clubs will be buying in the Summer which would potentially put Brentford further down the food chain. With that in mind, they maybe feel they can push the boat out now and gamble on that player - especially if they are expecting a windfall from selling Toney in the next 6 months - because this really is their one chance for Nusa.

I know that some people felt we were in the same position of only having a chance now, but if we qualify for the CL next season I think that puts us pretty high up the desirability scale. We've made enough signings in the last few years who had other suitors but still chose us.

There will be other Nusa's and we will be in a position to sign them as and when they fit our strategy. I'm guessing Brentford needed to be more cavalier. Like you say, it will be interesting to see how he gets on next year. The lad clearly has talent, and if he has chosen to move to Brentford he must have a lot of confidence in himself as well.

Indeed but remember the 5th, 9th and 10th richest club went on crazy spending spree's and overpaid on loads of players to a point where they can't sign anyone unless the sell. Massively overpaying leads to FFP issues, which in turn leads to not signing anyone in future windows. For a key target in a position we are short I get your point. For a gamble on a position we are fairly well stacked with numbers? Definitely not.
Thanks Trix and agree in general. I’m not bothered about Nusa in all honesty. It’s just difficult to understand sometimes how as one of the richest clubs in the world we seem to be neither here nor there. We wont pay top dollar for the top players, we only look for players with potential for greater resale value and then we wonder why we can't get over the line. I'd rather quality over quantity every day of the week. We've done extremely well with recruitment recently but it would be nice that we let go of the handbrake every now and then. Even once every 5 years would be a start :)

No gonna let go of the metaphorical handbreak for an 18 'Wunderkind'.

We'll know in 2/3 yrs if this was a missed opportunity. Chances are it won't be. Young players, even those 18-20 are still so hit and miss - mainly miss.

Kinell, a missed opportunity on a 18 yo with almost zero top flight football at nearly 40 million. World's gorn mad I tells ya. /shakes fist at sky

Postecoglu intimated after the Dragusin deal that we were unlikely to bring anyone else in notwithstanding an opportunity that we think is worth taking. I guess this was one of those that was no longer a worthwhile opportunity once Brugge upped the anti.
Simple as that.
