According to Blue Moon Silva has already spoken to Villa regarding the possibility of joining if Tevez leaves.

Somewhere in Salford as I write this, a twenty stone City fan is having David Villa's face tattooed onto his left arsecheek to accompany the existing David Silva one on the right.

He will be off to Spain if City relent and sell him. His family are more likely to settle in a Spanish speaking country.

His wages and transfer fee will rule out 99% of clubs anyway. What will interest me is City's decision makers attitude to a player wanting to leave who is vital to their plan. Most teams would begrudgingly accept and then make sure they got top dollar for the player. Will the arabs dig their heels in at the detriment to team spirit because they don't need the money?

Good points. His family may prefer him to be with them in Argentina, but for his football career Spain is obviously much better. And yes, his family should be able to settle in Spain much easier than they did in England.

The Qatar Foundation (read Sheikh Al-Thani) deal with Barca would have made it even more interesting if Barca were still interested in Tevez, given Sheikh Mansour's close ties with Qatari family and their investment channels.
But Tevez would be behind Messi and Villa in the list there, and unlikely to want this situation.

Real Madrid would be more logical, or Valencia if they had more money (perhaps Qatari may want to invest a few billions there too, why not).

Difference being though that Arsenal and Utd were not where we are when Wenger and Ferguson were appointed, Arse were mid table with Bruce Rioch and were in need of major rebuilding, Utd too were down on their luck, they could both take a gamble whereas we are right up there and need a proven manager to take us to the summit.

Were we mid table I would be more enthusiastic about a Coyle or a Di Matteo but instead we are on the brink of something great and taking a gamble with a rookie is too dangerous

No, they weren't. Rioch took them to fifth. It was his predecessor, the hopeless Houston, who saw them floundering in mid-table. It was also Rioch who signed Bergkamp.

A 'proven manager to take us to the summit' eh? I seem to have heard that old chestnut somewhere before.

I don't reckon City could take any player from Barca who Barca felt they had a use for. Toure, much as I love him, was no longer wanted because of Busquets emergence and the upcoming Mascherano signing. The only way Villa will end up at City is if Barca decide he isn't good enough, otherwise he's very much going to be a Barca player for years. It's not just money there (though the Barca players are amongst the very highest paid obviously), it's the club. Every man there, especially the Spaniards, are just in love with the entire club, you can tell that just by watching them.

He was offered to us first at the time but I think Francis, or was it Sugar pissed off due to Klinsmann leaving, turned him down and we signed Armstrong instead....

Armstrong and Fox for a combined £9m instead of Bergkamp for £7m basically says everything that needs to be said about a decade of Tottenham and Arsenal football since the mid/late 90's
