this time of year can so exciting ...i love and loath the tranfers rumours ...this year however ive taken a step back and im no longer excited or disapointed by links after all my track record is rubbish! ....
in seasons gone by ive championed the causes of Beatie, Nolan and even boa morte as being EXACTLY what we need ..whilst being disapointed at signing the useless woodgate and unproven berbatov....
just goes to show what i know eh?

hand on heart ..how succesful do you think youd be if you were in Comoli/ramos shoes...?

its seems id be shit ...after all ...id be deluded for thinking i know better than a prem manager right ?

who did you champion and slate only to be proved wrong?

Nice thread, bud.

I bored literally everyone who knew me after spending a bit of time following the reserve league about a decade ago. I was absolutely stunned at the best strike partnership I'd seen for ages. They scored over fifty goals between them and despite the high transfer fees reported (15m the pair) they had shown some good form in their early first team games at Wimbledon. The players?

I championed for Bent and Jenas, but the jury is still out where both are concerned in my opinion.

What I call near misses are, I so wanted us to sign Kyut (Instead of Berbaov), Duff, Dyer and Scott Parker and I am now glad we didnt get any them. Of the four "probably" only SP would probably be of any use and only as a DM.

But then I also wanted us to sign Petrov and he would definitely have been a plus.

I still thought Andy Reid could do a job for us up until our recent signings.

No, I don't mean in the Tuck Shop or any other over-used fat jokes.

i was craving Torres big time, and now look!

I have to admit to becoming the laughing stock within my group of mates over the years! I stupidly took ITK and rumour as gospel. Rivaldo, gattuso, casillas, eto'o, robben, davids (ok so i won this one), torres, nani, cannavaro, Dave... oh the list goes on.

Either way, i really wanted us to sign keano Robbo Woody Carrick and defoe so not all doom and gloom, i remember having a fairly heated arguemnt with my mate a few months before we signed defoe, he said there is no way on this earth spurs would ever sign defoe, being a manc he said defoe will be a man utd player and not a yid, guess who i text when we signed! i still dont let him live it down!

wow what a large amount of spunked time i just spent writing that shite.

hhhmmm

try.... and .....keep.... post..... going.....

shit.....

Better then you my friend !! I think I wont do to bad!! I dont know scoting is something that intrests me. I watch a LOT of football in lots of different countries. However I dont watch each country regually enough to tell you whos good or not. However I doubt I would do as good job as Camolli or any prem. buyer. Their is a reason they are where they are!!

I hated us signing Jenas but am really glad now! Didn't see the point in Steed either - again how wrong I was!

Really wanted SWP when he went to Chelscum!

I didn't think Robinson would be a good signing, although I was more than happy to take him as the fee was so small. I remember he'd just had an awful season with Leeds, with only a couple of good performances (notably the 2-2 draw with Liverpool towards the end of the season). When he first joined, I was very quick to admit my wrong, but poor ol' Paul's kinda gone a little down hill since then :?:-(

Chimbonda I didn't want at all, which I was definitely right about. Like with Robbo, I originally admitted I was wrong, but it wasn't long before Pascally-wag changed my mind again.

I remember, going back a few years, I was a unsure of the Carrick signing, after he'd just had a pretty ordinary season with West Ham. Very glad Franky boy beat Pompy to him though :)

As for signings that I've wanted, I think it was earlier in the season, around October time, I made a post about what would be the ideal players for us. I seem to remember I wanted:

Artur Boruc in goal (not bad, been linked again with him today)

Alan Hutton at right-back (and I'm very happy to brag about that one :))

Ryan Nelsen & Ivica Dragutinović at centre-back (on second thoughts...),

Scott Brown in centre-midfield (again, it seems I was way off then)

David Bentley on the right (probably would have been cost a little less then)

I've talked about Carlos Cuellár before, and I seem to have been on the money with that one.

I also remember posting something about Joey Barton potentially being ideal for Spurs.... Hmm :|

Spursking used to champion loads of people in his day, I think he got tired of the constant ribbing though.

I too wanted Petrov at the start, but his season has waned so the jury's still out.

As for Torres, we should have gone in earlier on that one......instead of pursuing Kuyt and ending up with Rasiak......

I have to admit Steed was up for a slating when he joined but he came on in leaps and bounds last year and stuck some grit on the left side of the field.

And lately I've been shamefully wondering if Jimmy Bullard would have been a good signing instead of when we signed Danny Murphy.

I'd like to see that Croatian keeper in our goal next season, he looks like a touch of class. Celtic probably won't let him though....

I was absolutely over the moon about signing Zokora - I now really really want him to be sold to the Scum...

I can remember once really wanting us to sign Marcus Bent.....shocking!

I was excited about Zokora too.
Going on what people were saying about him at the time he was just what we needed.

Then when those photos came out With him and the young Spurs fan holding the scarf I was well chuffed.

I think we should keep him as a squad player as he can cover a lot of positions but he was not what we needed.

Stipe Pletikosa plays for Croatia and Spartak Moscow, I think the goalie your on about is Boruc who plays for Poland and Celtic, rumour was we were after him as McGregor's valuation was ridiculous.

As for Champion I was relatively happy that we bought Sean Davis,Davenport, Murphy,Zamora and even Etherington, as they had done well for the clubs they'd previously played in but were shipped out eventually as they couldn't hold down a regular place.

the point of the thread?

hand on heart ..how succesful do you think youd be if you were in Comoli/ramos shoes...?

who have you championed and slated only to be proven wrong ?

the point of the thread was partly for us to confess how badly wrong we have ben in the past when judging potential targets and party to highlight just how badly spurs would now be doing if the majority of us "experts " were making transfer moves for real..

And as for the mods ...i guess the are joining in with the spirit of the thread and holding their hands up to having misjudged a few players themselves....

I was really sold on the idea of LuaLua a couple of years back, when he had a terrific season with Pompey and really looked like finally living up to all the hype. Didn't last long, though…

I got v.excited when Juninho was coming.... erm and Bergkamp... and Emmanuel Petit (before the goons got him)

Then I was well chuffed when we signed:

Acimovic,
Bunjevcevic
Ramon Vega
KPB

and Giovani dos Santos (Noooooo - what can this mean....)
