I am.

There's been this wierd kind of feeling I've had throughout England's games; that in order to progress they had to resort to the most base of values and styles - or lack thereof.

Winning isn't everything.

If you have to win like that, I'd rather lose.

And I'm glad we did.

I agree. That performance was truly woeful. Does Hodgson think that our players are that bad that they can't be allowed to leave their defensive positions and run into space and support the farthest forward players? If your wingers are really auxiliary full backs how can you expect to counter-attack with any efficiency? I hope and pray this isn't the England of the future. Not an improvement.

This is as good as England are at present. With 2 minutes of preparation time, a raft of injuries and our only [potentially] inspiring player unavailable for the first 2 matches, Hodgson understood that England had to play a disciplined, defensive game to get out of the group. They did that and did it well. Then they encountered a side that could keep the ball and immediately went out. What is new here? This is the way we've played in major tournament finals for decades. We just did it a bit better this time and reached our level, which is the last 8, instead of crashing and burning against inferior opposition.

tbh, i just couldn't support a team with ****s like terry in it. i know this is a small minded view but i blame him and capello for Spurs's downfall last season. Also i thought some of the squad selections were stupid. When there's no terry, the right players are picked and we dont play like stoke i will be 100% behind England come Brazil 2014.

England are second rate, at best, and slipping faster than Titanic (another over hyped colossus?). How they 'slugged' through to the QF stage is a credit to good fortune and a reasonably good manager....even if he is more suited to Relegation Battles than Euro/WC battles. A rather 'average' (if technically superior to England) Italia showed just how far Football has progressed and surpassed The FA's best expectations?).
It will be 2016, at best, before the next 'prayer fest' at Lancaster Gate. The 2014 Brazil WC will be out of range of England....as will the 2016 Euro's, no doubt. Nodoubt Spain, Germany...and maybe Russia, Netherlands will dominate the next 10 years? The future of UK football looks dim...but hope springs eternal, as usual? COYS!

I am happy, anyone who says they rather have boring football and win than good football and do worst, just needs to watch England

If we played like England I would slowly stop watching us just like I don't watch qualifiers to see great players defending and players like rooney, when on the ball only having one teammate in the oppositions half look shit and pointless as this style doesn't suit him, people don't remember the boring teams they just remember the victory

Look at the Cryuff Dutch team everyone remembers the amazing football they played before hand

Nope. I'll always support England at every chance, but I can see understand why some people don't.

They didn't deserve to progress any further - it would have been a bit like Greece in 2004.

The 4 remaining teams are all far superior, and save for a misfiring Balotelli, it should have been a spanking last night.

I cannot support any team that has Terry in it. That aside I also think taking him was the wrong decision. Terry is not suited to possession football. He can do the old last ditch tackle/block quite well and can head the ball, but beyond that he is pretty useless.

As an Austrian national, our national side has brought little joy so I can understand your pain and embarrassment. Luckily we are so bad that we hardly every qualify for anything. Unfortunately we, along with our Swiss neighbours, were chosen to host Euro 2008 and therefore qualify automatically. In order to avert yet more humiliation a petition was started calling for us to withdraw from the competition:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/7431605.stm

The petition, in English and German, says Austrian football is an insult to the beautiful game. It appeals to football fans who "love this great sport for the sheer beauty of it" but who "fall into a dismal state of depression when watching a match featuring the Austrian national football team".

Needless to say, despite popular support it failed to stop our participation.

To me football should entertain, and while aiming to win and be the best is a part of that, it's not the only thing that counts.

Such a massive shame that we took such a misfiring bunch of reputations (Rooney, Terry) and players who play at big clubs, but are in fact average (Milner, Henderson, Young, Walcott, Carroll). Would have genuinely got excited by a team with the likes of Sinclair, Holt, Caulker, Britton. We probably would have got just as far, and have been building for the future.

Never want us out so voted no...

But we were awful except in fits and spurts where for brief moments we showed we at least knew how to play football.

But in general we are falling further behind the continent and shouldn't even be top 10 on the Fifa world rankings, this has to be changed!

I wanted us to win so no I'm not happy we're out. I'm not happy with the way we played either but that doesn't mean I wanted us out. I don't get his stuff about never supporting a team with John Terry in it either. I can't stand the bloke, but it's our national team so I support them no matter who plays for them. Would people give up Spurs if we signed him?

We weren't good enough to beat Italy.

Am I glad? Not really. I wish we were better, but we've been saved another thumping from Germany, I suppose.

Relieved, perhaps.

I am not English, but I feel for anyone who is with Terry in the team. Thank god he is getting on, is a Chav through and through in very sense of the word, and would never sign for us. If he did sign for us, it would probably be worse than having George Graham as manager. Those were dark days indeed.

The really sad thing about Terry is that he is a good player. If he wasn't such scum he could have made himself a national hero. Hopefully his days of playing for the national team will be over soon - especially with the court case looming.

I can't see us ever signing him but I bet he would come to us if Chelsea axed him and we offered him the best contract- he is a man with very few morals after all.

Without any bias of course, I think Dawson is just as good, so we don't need him. As players they are quite similar. As people I believe they are quite different.

The fact that our back four/possibly five were the most consistant performers does really sum up our tournament. I really enjoyed the Sweden game (mostly because I was on a stag weekend and it was a great start to it) and the whole event itself for the most part. We weren't exactly dazzling but atleast there was heart and spirit which we've not really seen for over a decade. The whole underrating them thing really made them buck their ideas up and try and prove themselves which in the end showed them for what they are. A pretty average but hard to beat team who are capable of the ocassional moment of real class. I think we can atleast be proud of the effort they put in. I'd say Gerrard certianly proved himself once and for all too. Should have made captain straight after Becks if not before.

At the end of the day the best four teams still remain in the competition and the final could be really interesting whoever gets through.
