They have been accused of failing to declare on official documents that they had been in the United Kingdom in the past 14 days when they arrived in Sao Paulo on Friday ahead of Argentina’s huge World Cup qualifier against Brazil.

It's more to do with tonight's Brazil v Argentina WC qualifier. Several of Brazil's key UK-based players have been prevented from travelling due to Covid, so they're particularly pissed off to see Argentina seemingly able to field a full strength team, including several EPL players. The Brazilian border guards have a clear motive for finding faults with the paperwork...

It seems that Brazil does have a 14-day quarantine for anyone traveling from UK - which seems like it was a terrible idea for the Argentine FA to request the players, for the players to accept the call up, and for the club to permit the call up.

Poor decision-making all the way around.

You have to hope the Argentine FA or management have said that they got it okayed.
This is where FIFA need to have provided leadership, but if money will be lost they are nowhere to be seen.

The players might expect a fine from the club here if it affects how they return or are available after the international break. Whatever the silly scheme they must have worked with Argentina FA, they shouldn't be making false statements to immigration. Brazil had no PL players in their squad. Quite how famous footy players would deny they haven't been in the uk is beyond me.

I believe that the that three players lied on their flight of origin, stating that they did not fly in from England?

This would change their quarantine process, so i think if true this is quite serious.

The UK government defines certain countries as high risk (in theory due to prevalence of potentially vaccine evasive variants). Arrivals from those countries are required to quarantine in government hotels.

also: just because you are vaccinated, does not mean you are “negative”. In countries with high vaccination rates like the UK, a majority of infections are in people who have been vaccinated (these are so called “breakthrough” infections). In short: vaccination makes it less likely to be infected and much less likely you will be very sick if you do get infected, but they do not guarantee you will not be infected.

now: does the risk after vaccination justify a 10 forced quarantine at a government hotel? That’s a debate for a different thread

Lets try looking at it like this, a vaccine is like a bullet proof vest, 1 or 2 shots at the vest you'll likely survive, a hail of bullets is another thing! But hey don't let facts, research or science stop ya! ?
